I sent DH to get my the meds today. I looked at them the other day & I opted for the generic Unisom b/c it had the same acive ingredient in it as the Unisom and alot cheaper. He also pciked up B6 for me 50mg.

When he got home I went to the site that IVFbound gave in a differnt post and it said the active ingredient in Unisome was Doxyclamine however on the box I looked at it said it was Diphenhydramine. Is this the same thing? Also for the B6 it said to take 25mg 3 times a day and I had a choice between 200mg and 50mg B6 so I got the 50mg.

Is everyone taking 50mg 3 time a day or are you breaking the tab in half?

    thanks in advance!

You have to get the Unisom TABLETS not the GELCAPS. They have a different active ingredient...I have no clue why or how they both work (for sleeping) if they are not the same thing...but they are different. Even if the ones he got were tablets...you still need the Doxy ones not the Diphen ones.

When I went to the store, the Pharmacist went to the shelf and handed me exactly what I needed: Unisom (Doxy...)(generic...she said it's the same stuff...no need to pay twice as much) 25mg and B6 100mg tablets. She told me to take 1/2 of each and if that didn't work, I could take a full tablet of each. So if you just got the 50mg B6, you can take 1 of those at a time...if it doesn't work you can take 2 (for a total of 100mg).

You can take both of them during the day, but obviously cannot do taht if you have things to do and places to go. Don't want you falling asleep at the wheel :D

HTH! And hope your m/s subsides soon!! :hug99:

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that Diphenhydramine is just the generic form of Benadryl.

    So I can take 50mg 3 times a day? Even 100mg 3 time a day if needed?
Also can you take this through the whole pregnancy?

I was told you can take the combo of both pills 2x/day (12.5-25 each time of Unisom and 50-100 each time of B6). This is what the Pharmacist told me then I confirmed it with my Dr.

And yes it is safe thru-out your pregnancy. With Grant I had to take Unisom in the last 2 months b/c I could not sleep. And B6 is just a vitamin...so I dunno why that would not be OK to take thru-out either.

    Ditto this...twice a day(up to 100mg of B6...since you bought the 50mg).

I was told not to take anymore than 100mg of B6 per day. Maybe you should check with your OB on this. I have experience with Unisom, but I do hope you get some relief!!
