    WHAT A WEEK!

I went to the doctor's office on Monday (5/14) to give blood to go along with my 24 hour urine test. While I was there, I asked if they'd rec'd results from the basic bloodwork I'd had done the previous Friday. The nurse said I had and that some of the values were out of whack; she asked me to sit a minute while she had the dr take a look. She came back a few minutes later and said that the dr wanted to talk to me, if I had a few minutes to wait. I honestly didn't think anything of it, b/c the dr is also my neighbor and so I figured he maybe just wanted to reassure me that all was fine. But all was NOT fine. My liver enzymes were so bad, apparently, that he was worried I'd start seizing at any minute. He said he feared that I was developing pre-e very quickly and said I would have to deliver the babies to prevent serious harm. I said, "Ok, so deliver them sometime this week????" And he said, "No, you need to deliver them today."

The next 24 hours were a whirlwind for my DH and I. Although they let me try for a natural delivery, my millions of contractions did nothing to change my cervix (which was ironic in that I spent 10 long weeks on terbutaline up to this point), and my liver function cont'd to deteriorate. So, by early am on Tuesday (5/15), they said that to make sure I stayed healthy, they would have to do a csection that morning.

The csection itself was not nearly as bad as I'd imagined. I felt nothing at all. At 11:18 am, Kellen Arman was born (at 34 w 1 d) weighing 4 lbs and Colby Kian followed at 11:19 am weighing 3 lbs 9 oz. Both were able to breathe on their own from the start. In fact the docs have all reassured us countless times that the babies are perfectly healthy. But they are small so, even though I came home yesterday, they will stay in the hospital about another week to ten days as feeders and growers. They are in excellent hands and I seriously need time to recover - not only do I have the surgery to recover from (not fun) but also they had me on mag sulfate (believe it or not, it's very common) after the csection to help make sure I didn't seize. I am wiped out.

But I am also completely in love with those two little boys. I would post pics, but honestly don't know how - maybe I can add them later. They are so tiny but so perfect - I can't wait to bring them home, but the hospital is only 20 minutes away, they won't be there long, and I will be able to go back every day to visit and feed them. Oh yes, I have already been able to BF Kellen!!! Colby - well, he wasn't so interested :p The lactation consultant is working with me on this.

Thank you for all the support you guys have provided over the past many months. I wish all of you twin-mommas-to-be the best of luck and will pray for happy endings to your stories as well!

See you on the FY forum!

:sign0016: Kellen and Colby! I hope that they are home with you soon. We are here for you in the meantime if you need to talk... we know it's hard have them in the NICU and not at home.

You did a great job, though and their weights are excellent for 34 weekers! Congrats, Mommy! See you in FY!

Wow, your experience was a lot like mine. Glad the boys are ok, and mom too! I love their names, btw! Kian and Colby were on our boy list, but we didn't get to use them.LOL

Give us an update on how they are doing with the eating.

Congratulations and happy birthday to the babies!
