Underwear confusion

My boys are doing great going to the potty and both even pooped on there today. They prefer to be buck naked all day which I am ok with but if they were to have a poop accident I would prefer they have underwear on. The problem is that they aren't really fans of underwear yet and when they do wear them they mistake them for diapers and have accidents whereas if they are naked, they always run to the potty.
    Any suggestions?

My oldest was like that. It took a bit before he finally got that his underwear. Have you taken them to the store and let them pick out their own underwear? That is what did it with Donevan.

No haven't tried that. I bought ones that have stuff on them that they like.

I think my kids are the same way... they don't realize they're wet and are just excited to get new underwear every time...

Boxer shorts! They worked wonders for my boys when we were going through the same thing. They don't hold poop in, though.

My two cents... if you are just starting the potty training process and being naked works, stick with that. I started a naked period during the day a little after 2 years old and we did have poop accidents, but it was always on the floor (not smeared into the couch or carpet) and was very easy to clean up. We just started the serious potty training process. If I put underwear on them (Gerber padded training pants) they have many accidents in them. Let me say that cleaning poop out of underwear is so totally gross - I would rather clean it off the floor!! So, we are back to no underpants. Right now, we have graduated to pants but no underwear. I don't know what kind of underpants you are using, but maybe padded underpants feel too much like a diaper... perhaps try regular old underpants. Boxers are a great idea, too. Good luck!

We did the 3-day PT this summer (mid-June or so), but they just started wearing underpants in the last few weeks regularly. In the beginning they thought underpants meant diapers and would have TONS of accidents so I just left them naked from the waist down when home or only loose pants on when we were out. When we started transitioning to underpants we made sure we got the character kind and say "Dora doesn't like to get pee peed on" or "Buzz Lightyear doesn't like to have poop accidents near him" plus I would add "you wouldn't want that plus it makes you all yucky dirty so we need to clean up and change clothes" and even though it was silly it worked for our twins.

We still have the occasional accident when I don't realize it has been awhile and they are playing to intently, but I feel though are more my fault for not asking them to go try to go potty. For this reason DH is still hesitant to stop the overnight pullups even though 95% of the time they are almost bone dry in the morning. I am hoping by New Year's that we can be totally PT'd. I am tired of spending $ on the pullups, but DH doesn't want to be changing bedding every morning.
