I just called my pedi about my DDs belly button and how it doesn't seem to be healing properly. There's a little ball of tissue in the middle that is still red and raw. He said its probably umbilical granuloma and that he would take a look at it at her well baby check in a few weeks. They will probably just touch it with some silver nitrate.

I'd like to hear about other experiences? I was surprised that we're waiting another 3 weeks to do anything. He didn't sound like there was any cause for alarm. What do you all think?

    Thanks! Laura

Emma had an umbilical granuloma, and that is exactly how they treated it, silver nitrate. I would just keep putting alcohol on it for now. When they do put the silver nitrate on, she will probably have a brown looking, dirty spot around her belly button. [IMG]

Evan had one as well. The ped treated it several times with silver nitrate, and it was no biggie at all. He had a dirty looking spot as Becky said, but it eventually wiped off. From my understanding, it really isn't a big deal and can be easily corrected. His belly button area looks great now! [IMG]

Jake had one, and we didn't do anything. Now, it's almost gone.

With the sliver nitrate, my nephew was treated and it discolored his skin, freaking out his mother. It was harmless, but just be aware it could cause discoloration.
