well the radiologist and nurse were really sweet, and sean was pretty good, but i think there was a lack of communication as to why he was having the upper GI done. he drank the barium, and then they look at everything and turn him on his side, etc. the guy says hes done and everything looks attached. i said, no reflux? and he says, well i guess we can check real quick. i put him back under the machine, the guy looks for a few seconds, and says nope. does that sound right to you? the pediactric GI doc said from the description of his symptoms he has reflux, so should i worry about the negative GI diagnosis? the specialist is off post, his pediatrician, and the upper GI were on post (again, theyre SO STUPID HERE). well im getting his meds filled anyway, because its obvious hes uncomfy when he eats after an oz or so. ah, so no answers, so lovely.
I am sorry-I hope your little guy is feeling better soon. My ds had reflux and meds didnt help but adding rice to his feedings did help-I couldnt nurse him because of this but it did help! Have you tried different formulas? I am sure you have if you are seeing a specialist and doing upper GI's but I just wondered. I really hope the meds help and I bet they do!
I would still fill the prescription. It's not going to hurt. Try it for a couple of weeks and see if there is a difference. If not, then maybe it's not reflux, but I doubt it. Ellie doesn't spit up, so I wasn't sure she had reflux. The Zantac didn't work, so I was really starting to think it wasn't reflux. Once we switched to Prilosec, she's so much happier. I hope it helps.
Our GI specialist said the upper GI was primarily to detect or rule out physical abnormalitiles. Sometimes, it could capture reflux, but not always. And that wasn't really what it was designed to do. Both of our boys have reflux - one worse than the other, same symptoms just lesser degree in one. When we had our upper GI reflux was OBVIOUS on one. The doctor even said "Holy Cow." Poor guy... The other had slight blips the doctor said he likely would have overlooked if he hadn't have seen the other one first, and looked more closely to see if B demonstrated noticeable reflux as well. At our follow up GI appt the doctor told us to keep both on meds and the same amount of meds even though one didn't show as badly as the other. Hang in there. It does get better. It's great news that there aren't any phsyical problems!
My (singleton) daughter had reflux really bad, and a lot of my friends children have it as well. Some doctors do recommend giving them cereal in their formula because it will make it thicker and possibly help keep it down, and there are a ton of medications out there the ped. should be able to prescribe for him.. hang in there.
I hope things get better for your little one soon! Sorry they couldn't be more helpful, but I agree. Get the Rx and maybe that will help!
I am sorry about the communication mix up. Did you get a new prescription for something other than Zantac? I have been off TS for a bit (I know shame, shame ) and I was just wondering how he was doing.
