The hippest new trend in this house, apparently, is to be unable to put something down by yourself. ALL DAY LONG, when they get tired of playing with something, they bring it to me or DH, whining, "Give! Give! Give Mommy! Give Daddy!" No matter how much we encourage them to just put the @#$%ing thing down somewhere, they won't do it - they have to give it to us. And they do not tolerate any half-*ss attempt on our part. Taking it and putting it down on the floor right in front of you is not acceptable. You must either hold on to the object or come up with some special place for it. They will not put a single thing down on their own! They'll even give us a muffin crumb or a cat hair that we're supposed to do something with! :gah: :headbang:

Somebody tell me they'll get over it in a few days...pretty please...? Or at least explain to me why this is a very important stage of brain development for some reason...

 We have the opposite problem. Mine walk around all day saying "put it away, put it away" and put things back in the fridge, pantry, toy boxes, etc...

Sorry, that made me LOL! I think kids this age have a form of OCD. My son has been sleeping with his ballcap on for the last 5 days after I found it in the closet. Don't even get me started on their bedtime routine...

 and  all at the same time. Yes, the frustrations they bring out in us! Always totally unexpected things. I hope it's a short stage for you!

We never had that phase (at least not to that extent) -- they will sometimes insist on giving me things, but they've never been obsessive about it. Sounds like yours have just come up with a new way to drive you nuts. I did have to laugh at

As a serious suggestion, I would try just putting the thing down right in front of them. When you say "This is not acceptable," I'm taking that to mean they cry and scream? Maybe they're going to have to cry and scream, as part of learning that you and DH are not at their beck and call to put away every random bit of detritus in the house. :D

I feel your pain Holly. I wish I had advice. I showed them the garbage, but then they started throwing things out that shouldn't be thrown out! :gah:
