i swear my thighs are retaining water. they are almost hard and feel tight when i walk.
    is this 'semi-normal' at 33 w 3 days?

If this concerns you, I would definitely call your OB's office and ask. Water retention is a sign of pre-e, or so I was told. Do you have any other symptoms?? High blood pressure?? Seeing spots?? Best bet is to call your doc if you are concerned. My OB's office highly encourages us to call about any concern, any questions, etc.

I retained water during my first pregnancy... and it was BAD! I totally blew up, thighs, legs, arms, ankles, face... for me, it was pre-e but it also came with high blood pressure, protein in my urine, etc. So definitely call if it concerns you!

I retained so much water that I could not wear shoes. I continued to have normal blood pressure and no protein in my urine. Those two things are the biggest things to watch for if you are worried about pre-e.

It is normal to get a bit swollen. My whole body was swollen, to the point my arms went completely numb.

    Keep drinking your water though,
    Jenn

My hands and feet are a little swollen.... not too bad yet, but I am worried they will get worse. So far, blood pressure is normal and no protein in my urine. But, I HATE the swollen feeling! I didn't have this at all with my first pregnancy.

I think I started swelling at about 34-35 weeks. I gained 4 lbs one week and have been gaining only about 1 lb every 2 weeks but my Dr. wasn't concerned. He looked at my feet and my legs and said... that's where the 3 lbs are, the other lb. is on the babies. So I would notify your Dr. and if he/she isn't concerned, then I wouldn't be!

I think it's not a big deal if you don't have the other signs of pre-e, but it doesn't hurt to ask your OB. I never gained water, other than just trace amts maybe, until my twins. The last 2 weeks with them I put on 20+ lbs, and even my nose swelled up!!! Yuck! I hate looking at all the photos of me that day. It took 2-3 weeks for it to finally go away.

Gah, me too. I started swelling at about 5 months, by the end though I was nothing but water. I ended up buying men's flip flops at about 7 months so I could still wear some shoes, I was swollen past my knees, *my* arms and legs looked like the michelin man's body. I did have pre-eclampsia though, but no protein until 35 weeks, just insane swelling the rest of the time.

I assure you, they're all me! I was so relieved to get those parasites out of my uterus and get rid of some of that water. . .

FWIW, I had lost 30 pounds during the pregnancy until the last few weeks when I gained 60, putting me over my prepregnancy weight by 30 pounds. Of course, I lost all 60 pounds within two weeks. And then gained the 30 back!
