Ugh, the morning sickness...

I'm fighting a cold right now too, but my morning sickness grabbed hold of me about 10 days ago and between that and the drip/mucus from the cold, I could throw up at any given time. Like right now - I'm at work, sitting at my desk, wondering if I should go try to throw up. It might make me feel better?

I've tried the wrist bands last time, they didn't work for me. I have some Zofran leftover from the last pregnancy - it isn't working as well as last time around (maybe it's too old?) - but the constipation kicked in right away, the worst side effect ever from a drug IMO. I'm sick to death of Ginger Ale.

Any other ideas for getting thru the nausea?

Sorry to hear you are so sick. I've been very sick as well. This is my third pregnancy and the third time I'm dealing with hyperemesis. The doctor has tried me on Reglan, zofran, and phenergan and this time around NONE of them are working. I'm not any more sick this time with twins than I was the first two times, but the medications just don't seem to be working. I have an apt with my doctor on Monday and I'm going to ask if there is ANYTHING else we can do because I've lost 10 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I don't care if they want to hook me up to an IV or get me a zofran pump. I can only keep about 24 oz of fluid down a day and I've pretty well given up on eating because it always just comes back up.

The only recommendation I have is to try lots of different things. I know with my other pregnancies sometimes I'd find some random thing that would work. For instance, right now the only thing I can keep down are frozen slushy drinks... so I have to run out and pick up a drink or two throughout the day somewhere just so I can try to keep a bit hydrated. I've tried all sorts of different foods and eating small meals and all of the other recommendations, but nothing is working for me yet. I do hope you're able to find something that works for you! I hope it passes quickly for you too. If this is like my other pregnancies, I'll be dealing with this until I deliver (ugh!). But don't worry... with most people it passes after the first trimester!

Probably no such luck with me -- I threw up every day with my last pregnancy as well, twice the morning of my C-Section. I'm only 8 weeks now, so this all just seems like I'm starting down a long, long road of nausea and exhaustion - and my babies are only 9 months old right now too. Sigh. It's gonna be a long 7 more months (or 6 ish, most likely).

Thanks! I also agree with slushie cold drinks - I'm all about the Coca-cola ICEE machine at Target right now.

I don't have any great ideas but I understand. i was so sick this pregnancy adn havn't thrown up in like 3 weeks but still have times where I am nauseous. Zofran didn't work for me as well. They do have other drugs they do put people on so it mught be worth pushing your OB to try them. Also have 2 friend who the oral zofran didn't work but when they went to the pump, it was so much better. Might be worth asking about that as well. I also say keep trying things to see what helps. WIth my sister it was hot-chocolate and she got pregnant in July living in TX. Said she would lay by teh pool watching her older 2 and drink hot chocolate, but it helped. I did find that eating a little bit more often made me throw up less, I still felt terrible though. I ate a ton of bagels for a while. Hope you can find something.

I used Gin-Gins. It's ginger in the form of hard candy, without a really over the top sickening taste. I will admit that the taste took some getting used to in the beginning though. It wasn't nasty or anything, just not my idea of sweet, good tasting candy. Anyway, there are several varieties, some with nuts, etc. Those absolutely were a nightmare for me, but the plain ones in the yellow and orange wrapper worked like a charm for me. I bought them at the health food store and I also found them at Whole Foods.

I seriously don't know what I would have done without them and they really worked for me, unlike gingerale soda which I couldn't stand the taste of while I was pregnant.

I just found the website ...www.gingerpeople.com

I hope you feel better soon.

Bummer! I'm 12 weeks today and a few days ago I had several really bad days in a row and was so nauseated and exhausted it just made me depressed. I remember thinking, how in the world am I going to get through this pregnancy??? We will both do it though, somehow, we will pull through! I'd be sure to keep contacting your doctors office and letting them know that you're really sick, so maybe they'll try some other medications.

I drank lemonade and lays potato chips-I think it was the combo of sour and salt that helped.
I am so sorry you are going through this!! :grouphug:

Unisom (makes you tired though) and icy cold water with lemon were the only things that helped to some extent.

    Preggie pops.

I had a sour taste in my mouth all the time, so I had to brush my teeth every time I ate...in the evening, I would drink soda water with a twist of lime (no sugar, so therefore I didn't have to brush my teeth). Stopped around 16-18 weeks, at which point my 7 lb weight gain ballooned to 30 lbs (TG, it all came off again).

I tried everything but I liked hard candies to suck on a lot- it helped with all the excess saliva. I got so sick of every type of cracker known to man- fishies were my thing for a while.

I never tried preggie pops but I used to eat massive amounts of green blow pops. I could also eat most non-citrus fruit. Mostly I did strawberries and green apples. I really only ate things that were red or green until my 3rd trimester. Weird....

    Good luck with your pregnancy!

    Ginger altoids

I found the best thing for the nauseusness was actually throwing up. Once that started, I was no longer nauseus. But I still vomited regularly, and threw up on the operating table. That was the last time I threw up!

I'm sick to death of Ginger Ale, but the few people that mentioned ginger candy on here - makes sense. I'll look for the Ginger Altoids. We don't have a Whole Foods around here.

I agree - sometimes the best way to feel better is to just go ahead and throw up. Lasts a few minutes, and then I'm generally better 30 minutes later.

And I threw up on the operating table too! I gave up on Zofan my 3rd trimester so threw up every day, including twice the morning of the C.

Anyway thanks to everyone else for the suggestions - I'll try them all! I forgot about sour lollypops - that worked for a little while for me last time. I also got a Rx for Zofran from my doctor yesterday and instead of the melt-on-your-tounge ones, they wrote it for the pills. I took one this AM about 30 minutes before getting up for the day and I didn't puke (did gag though, and still feel a bit nauseous). I'll keep using them for now, although I HATE the side effects.

    Thanks again!

A few days before my scheduled c-section with my twins the hospital called me and told me that they were doing an experiment. They asked me if after my surgery if I felt sick they cold let me breath in a lavender scent and suck on peppermint instead of giving me medications I didn't need it but maybe that would be worth a try????

of course sitting here typing that and feeling morning sickness too, the thought of a lavender scent almost makes it worse LOL!

I agreed only after they told me they would give me some medication if I asked for it!

Oh God, I just got a chill/shudder at the thought of lavender scent...! UGH. And I don't even like the idea of pepermint right now. I'm slowly working my way thru a sleeve of saltine crackers which is keeping my mind off it, if not 100% working.

This pregnancy has been very difficult for me with nausea and throwing up through week 16 or 17. Although I absolutely hated the idea of it ... I did find that eating a bit of protein really helped me control the nausea symptoms and throwing up. It helped to drink a high protein drink at night before I went to bed, around 2 or 3 am when I got up to go to the bathroom I ate a bite of turkey and cheese with a cracker really fast and went back to bed. I got up earlier than normal in the morning so I could run go get something with protein before my normal 'breakfast' time - that routine for a couple of months was the only way I was able to keep from throwing up. Anything with carbonation made it worse for me. Sure hope you feel better soon - it's an awful feeling.

Emetrol! It was a life saver for me. It is an anti-Nausea,anti-emesis medication that you can buy over the counter at the pharmacy. I kept mine in a ziplock bacg with a spoon and took it everywhere with me. Give it a try! It is safe during pregnancy and I don't know why more Dr's don't tell their patients about it. Hope it helps for you girls

Eating around the clock helped. Crackers next to bed. NEVER have an empty stomach!!! When your stomach starts to get empty that is when you get sick. I never got sick because I was always eating.

Half of a Unisom with 2 vitamin B6 every 6 hours w/ food

Protein- cottage chz, cheese stix, eggs, STAY FULL!!! etc.

Zofran- but use the ones that dissolve under tongue!!! Not the ones you swallow.

I feel for you guys that get sick. I suffer from vertigo so I know what it's like.

Definitely DEFINITELY talk to your doctor because there are SOOO many things that can help you. You do NOT have to suffer! There is Reglan etc. Please don't suffer!!

Good luck! And the Zofran pump works wonders, I have heard.
