So this past week has been interesting to say the least. The boys are 9 months now and Jack is on a soy formula since about 2 months old due to a ton of spitting up. That seemed to solve the problem up until a few weeks ago and he is now spitting up like CRAZY. Seriously, probably 8 times today. He has also had diarreaha for the past two days in every diaper and now has a terrible diaper rash which we've never had before and to top it off, he is getting two top teeth in. SOOOO, I brought him to the pedi today and she is a bit 'old school' and tells us to stop giving him formula and to feed him all this weird stuff like give him chamomile tea pr pedialye in the bottle and give him bananas, carrots, rice with jello???(huh??), and some other stuff. Now, I do agree with the bananas, rice, carrots, apples since those are binding foods. And i do agree with the no dairy but I heard that Soy forumla is actually ok with diarreha and I hate to not give him his bottle becasue he really needs it...like he's SOOO fussy with out his bottle and will calm down with it.
So, has anyone else experienced this and their Dr said the same thing? I've been thinking of taking him to a new Dr just becasue she always tells me to give him chamomile tea with every issue he has. When he had a really bad bout of excema it was bathe him in tea. With the diaper rash it was put tea on it and now with the diarreaha its' give him tea.
Is it just me or is that weird? Also, any advice and thoughts on why all the spitting up all of a sudden?
    Ugh, I'm tired.

Just recently we had the same issues with Lily a couple of times.

The doctor took her off her regular formula and put her on soy until the diahrea stopped. Also we only fed her Bananas, Rice (or rice cereal), Applesauce, and toast. (BRAT)

Also, he told me to get calmoseptine ointment for the diaper rash but said it would go away once the diahrea stopped.

I hope your baby feels better soon!

A bit weird for me, but I am not a huge holistic type person. Not my style. But when Derek had nasty diarrhea we did do Pedialyte for 24 hours alternating formula (he was Alimentum which has little dairy in it so maybe soy would be fine) in one bottle and then the next was Pedialyte. It worked well. I was also told the BRAT diet is a bit "old school" as well and that you can also add in things that are high in carbs like pastas because that will help bind. I also gave the BRAT diet but also did carrots and pastas.

As for the spitting up-is he more mobile now? We had reflux and it was under control until they started crawling and pulling up and going crazy and then they had to adjust to that. It was short lived. Did you ask the Ped about it?

I think the tea thing is pretty weird. I wish I had advice for you, but I don't know what is best... I think I would try to cut back on bottles and stick w/ the applesauce, etc. Diaper rashes caused by diarrhea can be awful. I would do frequent baths and let his bum bum soak as long as possible. I like butt paste for a really bad rash b/c it doesn't contain menthol or camphor in it and won't burn. Feel better little guy!

Sounds like bad teething. With teething they get lots of extra drool which causes diarrhea and can irritate their tummies and cause some reflux. If it were me I would continue as you have been, but offer smaller bottles more often to help ease the tummy.
I do know tea bags can be very soothing, but can't figure out how to keep them in the right place on a babies butt, lol. i know it can also settle a tummy, but I would just use pedialyte!

Are you sure it's spit up and not throw up? Maybe he has a stomach bug? Mine had an awful virus when they were just shy of 4 mo--throwing up, diarrhea (with the accompanying horrible diaper rash). We did every other bottle pedialyte for a few days; but we never stopped formula outright. The pedi told us not to stop the formula unless they were throwing up constantly (they weren't). For the diaper rash, I use Butt Paste; but really, the best thing I've found for it is frequent baths and nakey time (a lot more challenging with diarrhea). One of mine developed a yeast diaper rash during this illness--OMG the smell. He ended up with a prescription cream for that, and it took forever to clear, poor thing. Though again--I think the baths and the air were the best thing for that.

    Good luck!

While I can't imagine giving a baby tea, the bigger issue is that your ideas don't seem in line with your doctor's ideas. Maybe you need to find someone who is a better fit for you.

As for the spitting, diarrhea and rash, I agree it sounds like teething. For the rash give them lots of nakey time so it can dry out. As for the spitting and diarrhea, try not watered down pedialyte and bananas and rice cereal to try to bind them up a bit. :hug99: and GL!
