Type of incision cut?!?

For those of you who had or will be having a c-section with your twins what type of cut did you get? Transverse or vertical? At my OR nurse appointment today, she assumed my Dr. would do a vertical for the twins. Now that is not what I want, since I possibly would like to have more children and a VBAC. I'm trying not to stress cause I haven't talked to my Dr. to confirm that...I see him Thursday. Just wondering what you other mommies had.

Mine is transverse, the OB actually went right over my incision I had when I had an ovarian cyst removed in high school. I didn't' realize they did vertical incisions anymore. I would definitely push for a transverse incision, I personally would not want that scar if it could be helped.

One of my twins was born via c-section with a transverse incision. It's very low and quite short (about 4 inches). She was not tiny either (7 lb 7 oz). Push for a transverse.

I could be completely wrong here, but I really thought they only did vertical cuts anymore in an emergency situation???

I didn't even ask what type of incision I had (and internal incisions and external incisions can be different) I just assumed since it was not an emergency section that it was transverse.

I had a c/s with my DD and it was a transverse. I really didn't think they did vertical incisions either but maybe with twins they do so they have more room to work with. Never really thought about it to tell you the truth. I think nowadays, depending on the circumstances, you can deliver vaginally after having a c/s too. But again, my thought on that is based on a trans incision. Either way, good luck to you and your babes!

Make sure you request that *both* incisions be transverse! Outside & inside!

No one ever mentioned a vertical. I have a small (maybe 5"?) transverse incision.

Transverse and so low that no one but DH would ever see it.

I have a transverse on the outside, but a vertical on the inside. My twins were really premature and the doctor said it would be safer for them. Since I have a vertical cut on my uterus I can't have a VBAC, only c-sections from here on out. I don't see why your dr would do a vertical, they really try not to do them if they can help it.

My outer incision is transverse, but the uterine incision is transverse and vertical. She couldn't get Cody out with just the horizontal incision. This is also how Baby B became Baby A at birth. *lol*

I, too, will not be allowed to labor or attempt a VBAC.

I have a vertical incision (both inside and out). I had an emergency c/s, but they knew that they would be doing the vertical even if I went to my scheduled date. I had a fibroid which they would have cut into if they had done the horizontal. So, VBAC was not an option for me with Liam.

With my twin A I had a vag. birth but they did a crash with twin B who was having trouble. The incision on my uterus is vertical and my "outside" incision is transverse. Count me in for the "no VBAC" club. :(
I am grateful that I have healthy babies though. :)

I wonder if it is even possible for him to do a vertical since my placenta is in front (anterior?) Do Drs. cut through the placenta to get to babies?

I have a transverse incision. Now when my DD's were threatening to arrive at 24 weeks, the doctor did say if this happened they'd have to do a vertical incision for the safety of the babies. But we held on and did not deliver until 31 weeks, so it was transverse.

Even though my grandsons were born at 37 weeks, my DD had a vertical incision due to having a previous vertical scar from belly button to pubic bone from an emergency appendectomy at age 13. Her appendectomy scar had always been red, jagged, raised and nasty looking, and also rubbed her clothes to the point of being painful, so her OB suggested that he do the c-section vertically and revise the scar at the same time. She's so glad she did that. Her new scar is smooth and does not rub against her clothing, a nice bonus for her, but it did make her c-section recovery harder than it would have been had she had a transverse incision.

She will have her second c-section next Thursday. I haven't thought to ask her if her incision will be vertical this time. Do they typically use the same c-section scar again?

I also had a transverse incision outside, but a vertical incision inside. My Baby A (Sarah) was VERY tough to get out! They had to use the vacuum & make the incision larger. I was also told no VBAC's b/c of it, but since I don't plan on having anymore kids it was a non-issue for me.

So I talked to my Dr. today. He will be performing a vertical cut on my skin and a transverse cut on the uterus. I don't much care about the one on my skin since my belly is one big stretch mark and I won't be wearing a bikini ever outside of my own bedroom :)

Did he happen to explain to you why? I find that interesting!

Wow, that is odd. Seems to me that if one were to be vertical, it would be the uterine incision. What is your doc's rationale?
