Paige had a 24 hour bug from Sat. morning to Sunday morning. And sure enough....I get a frantic hubby call at work yesterday that Tyler threw up 3 times in his car seat. I've washed the padding, but I'm curious if anyone had taken apart he base to get to the straps? We have the Evenflo Triumph Premier seats.

    Ugh.... [IMG]

If so, did you hand wash the straps or machine wash?

I have a BRitax and this weekend also had an "incident" with vomiting. I hand washed the straps.

We have an Evenflo one and I dissabled it and washed it all in the machine...it was TOO smelly otherwise.

Febreeze is good for the upholstry in the car if you had some get one there. [IMG]

Heather has thrown up once in her life and it was in the car. I removed anything and everything I could and washed in the machine. The rest I hand washed. Yuck! Sorry...

I usually hand wash the straps. I take the whole cover off and wash that in the machine.

i dont have this car seat, but i would have put mine in the machine if they would go... they are only removable from one end. the other end is screwed into the base of the chair. ugh. so lot of cold water and dish soap in the kitchen sink, using the kitchen sprayer to try to clean the straps as much as possible. good luck and the stink will go away eventually!

I have a Britax and Gabe threw up in it last April. I machine washed the cover and handwashed the straps. Even if I could have put them in the machine, I was concerned that it would affect the effectiveness of the strap in someway by going through the machine. It took awhile to get them clean, but now you would never know how dirty they were (but I assure you that I will never forget that night [IMG])

I hand wash the straps and hang them to dry. It is never fun having to take apart the car seat but after a couple times you become a pro. |

I would also not put the car seat cover in the dryer cause it could shrink and be a pain to put back on.

Our Britax Roundabout instruction book says not to take out the straps so I had to wash them by hand. I used soap and water and then sprayed them with diluted lavender oil (to disinfect) when I was done.

    Just an update....

I called Evenflo and they said the straps cannot be taken out. I was told to use a toothbrush and mild detergent. So...I reclined the seat as much as it would go, turned it upside down and let as mush of the straps soak in the kitchen sink with the water & dish detergent. Then I also just scrubbed the part that the straps didn't reach the water. Then...I sprayed the straps with Totally Toddler. Seems to have done the trick. But...I hope that doesn't happen again!!! I took the straps out and put them in a lingerie bag to put in the washer.

I've taken apart the seat with my dd so many times it was old hat. She threw up sooo much! Not a good backseat rider! LOL

I always threw everything in the washer. Just hung them over something to dry, as well as the cushy stuff. If I didn't have time, I put the dryer on low vs normal and let them dry that way.
