So a week agao my son stopped nursing and was crying at the breast. I took him to the doctor and they told he was getting 4 teeth up top and to give him tylenol for the pain. I have been doing that for the past 9 days, 3 doses a day while he is awake. I notice if I am off an hour by the dose or first thing in the morning before it kicks in he either won't nurse or be real fussy at the breast and start biting his wrist. THe teeth are right about to break through, but still haven't. How long would you feel comfortable giving him tylenol for? I called the doctor and he said it should be fine to continue, but if I was giving anymore than 3 doses (5 is the max) he wouldn't recommend doing it for more than 3 days in a row and didn't seem overly confident in continuing the tylenol and just said it should be fine. It wasn't the overly reasurring response that I was hoping for. He is 11 months old. Also what is the longest it can take for teeth to come in, my other son usually cuts them overnight and I know it can vary. Thanks.

I would not give my babies tylenol for more than 5 days max. Are you sure there isn't something else going on with him? I remember that the first bottom teeth that came through were the most painful for my girls but I don't remember them taking more than a week to pop through their gums.

Maybe you could try some teething rings or Hylands tablets?

I tried hylands teething tablets first, but it didn't seem to offer enough relief. I give him two in the morning before the tylenol kick in or else he won't nurse. I'm not sure what else to do and the teething rings don't help at all. I wish his teeth would come in already :headbang: I'm pretty sure it is his teeth seeing as he will wimper and bit his wrist and turn his head and refuse to nurse.

you can also alternate motrin with the tylenol if you're afraid of him getting too much tylenol. also baby orajel worked well for my girls. they hated it when you first put it on but then it seemed to help.

With my older two, their teeth crawled in and it was brutal. I found that motrin seemed to help better and longer than tylenol.

Motrin will work for 6-8 hrs instead of just 4-6 like tylenol. I would give motrin instead. And try 4 teething tabs instead of 2. As for the teething rings, do you have them refridgerated? The cold seems to help numb their gums and ease the pain. You can also use a very cold washcloth for them to chew on.

It really varies by kid as to how long they'll teeth for! I hope he feels better soon!!

I alternated Tylenol and Motrin. Dr. approved it. I would give the Tylenol every 4 hours and the Motrin first thing in the morning and before bed. One of my little guys would cut teeth without me even knowing it, but the other had a terrible time. You may also want to try and get him to drink from a sippy cup (either water or expressed BM) as there is less sucking involved so less pain.

I second the tylenol/motrin. But I do not like to give them anything for more that 3-5 days max. Sometimes I think they are having teething pain, give some motrin and no teeth yet.

I like the motrin better, it seems to give more pain relief. I know that people swear by the teething tablets, but whats in them? Are they regulated by the FDA?
