One of my LO's wakes up a few nights a week around 4 AM screaming in pain from teething. Nothing soothes him - I've tried it all - having him sleep with us, rocking him, swaddling, feeding, etc. Last night I tried Tylenol and within 10 minutes of giving it to him he was sound asleep again. Is this okay to do a few nights per week?

I would check with your Ped to see how often you can give it since technically they are 2 months old. But a night here and there shouldnt be an issue.

My ped always says okay, but all my kids were rather big! ;) But they are in pain, and there's no sense in letting them suffer.

On an alternative note, you can look for hylands teething tablets at your local pharmacy or walmart. They are homeopathic and work great for teething, they just ease the pain within minutes and usually the baby will fall asleep soon after. It doesn't actually put them to sleep but it eases the pain so sleep is possible. They worked great for my oldest son, didn't do anything for my oldest dd, but seem to help the twins when they are fussing from pain.

I am so happy you posted something on this topic. One of our boys is going through the exact same thing right now. We have tried the Hylands teething tables, gel, and Oragel. All seem to help a little but the thing that helps the most is the Tylenol. It appears to help take away the pain and put him back to sleep too. We have a very close friend that is a pediatrician that we go to for lots of advice and she said it was ok but we still try all the other things before we result to the Tylenol. Good luck to you; this teething stage is tough and I wonder how long the little guy will be in this pain - the tooth has already come through the gum so I wonder when he will get used to it....

He does like a cold washcloth to suck on maybe you can try that.

Thanks!! I've not heard of Hylands Teething Tablets - I'm going to look for those!

I would also check with the ped. but I'm sure Tylenol every now & then would not be a problem, even though their adjusted age is young. I know we were allowed to give L&L Tylenol for their 2 month shots, so it would probably be fine.

We are experiencing the same thing in our household! Infant Tylenol is perfectly safe in correct dose, or it wouldn't be available. When my 19 month old was 6 months, there were some weeks I would alternate between Tylenol and Motrin at night. She had a TERRIBLE time when cutting teeth. It looks as if my twin girls will be the same. The teething tablets helped some, but nothing like Tylenol.

I think it's ok, but like others, would double check with the ped just to be sure!

Tylenol is okay as a last resort but it can be quite sedating for a 2 month old. Plus, they their metabolism of drugs is still immature, I wouldn't
recommend it unless you've really tried everything else. I wouldn't even give a full dose, often a half dose is enough for minor pain like teething.

I think it's fine as long as you check with your ped. My LO's always have different doses of medication because one is bigger than the other. As long as you know the correct dose (from your ped) it can be helpful for teething. Beth
