Hi I know the Docs office has told me ok to give tylenol before after shots if the babies were fussy so I know Tylenol is ok. However, when you look at the box, it says to consult Doctor for under 24 pounds. Dr. Never mentioned a dose and I never had to ask after shots but today my little johnny is in so much pain cutting teeth. I tried hylands teething gel and a cold washcloth and neither helped much. I then gave tylenol but only .60 dose because I was unsure of dose and Dr.'s office closed for holiday.(Box recommends 1.6 dose for 24 pound babies)Do you think .60 is ok dose? He is 17+ pounds. Any insight into doses your docs have told you would be great to get us through tonight until I can talk to Doc tomorrow. Thanks!

My babies are 15lbs and our pedi says to give them .4 ml. My niece is 18lbs and she gets .8ml I think .6 is fine :)

Wow, they are closed? I wish we could be closed for something like presidents day. I work every day except for thanksgiving, christmas and new years!

The dose for a 17 lb + baby is 120 mg or 1.2 mL (one and a half droppers of the infant tylenol). They are also old enough for the infant motrin, which seems to last a little longer. It also has anti-inflammatory properties so sometimes it takes the edge off a little better for teething. The dose for that would be 1.25 mL. I never had any luck with the teething gels. Have you tried hylands teething tablets? I find those work well for the sleeplessness that can happen with teething. For my little man who has been teething constantly since Christmas I do motrin before solids and again before bed, then teething tablets before nap and before bed. Good luck! Teething is a b$%^#!

Thanks guys! What a huge help youve been. I have the teething tablets by Hylands as well and did hear that Motrin seems to work better for most. I am going to run and get some motrin for later! Can I give Motrin today if I already gave tylenol earlier. How long to wait in between?

You can give motrin if you gave tylenol earlier - I'll give one every 3hrs if we have fevers going on. There is a weight calculation for tylenol and motrin. Tylenol is 15mg/kg for fever and 10mg/kg for pain. Your 18lb baby can get a range of 120mg-80mg. Motrin would be 80mg. Big fans of the teething tablets here as well. Hopefully this ends soon for you - teething is rough for everyone..

Our babies are 6 months and we were told not to give them Motrin just yet. They are 15-16 pounds and get 0.8 infant tylenol. I think every doctor has their own opinions...

I've always followed the dosing recommendations on Ask Dr. Sears. Hope things get better soon!
