Next week I am taking my little guys to get their first series of shots. I was wondering how much Tylenol I should give them before and how soon before their appt?

The Dr told me not to give Tylenol before, but I could give it to them after they take their temprature. They want to make sure there is no fever going on before they give certain shots.

I used to work for a pedi and she always wanted people to wait until after we took the temps to give the tylenol. But I would call your doc to see what they say.

My pedi told to give them tylenol about a half hr before their appt. I think every pedi is different, call yours and see what they say.

With all 3 of my kids I have always given tylenol about a 1/2 hour before shots. How much depends on their weight.

I have always given mine half a dropper about a half hour before shots. Check with your ped though.

We give them a hit of Tylenol before we leave for the pedi. By the time they actually get the shots it can be 45-60 minutes later.

I've never given tylenol for shots with any of my kids. In my opinion it is just a little poke and shots usually don't hurt until a few days later - I think it's not necessary. But every parent is different so if you want to give tylenol call you doc

Our ped is like several others have mentioned, she did not want us to give any tylenol prior to the appointment because of the temps. One of the signs of a reaction to a shot can be increased temperature and if tylenol is masking a preexisting temp then it will be harder to watch for this reaction. She would give us sample tylenol at the appointment in the proper dosage if we asked for it at the office but we never used it. Shots didn't seem to bother them except for the exact moment they went in and even then they were fairly easily consoled.

    Good luck with the shots.
