Tylenol before bed?

One of my baby girls has been waking each night for 1-2 hours lately. My aunt noticed this weekend that she seemed to be upset and teething and that’s what is causing the night awakenings. (Her twin sister is already on tooth #5 and never had any night time pain). My aunt told me to give her some Tylenol before bed to avoid her waking up in pain. It worked! She slept all night!
My husband is against giving any unnessesary medication and thinks we should wait until she cries in the night and then give it to her (of course he’s not the one waking up with her!)
What should I do now? Give her some Tylenol every night for a couple of weeks until it passes? Or wait and give it to her when needed—in the middle of the night.
I will call my doctor, but wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this?

I tend to give tylenol/motrin before bed for teething pain.

I have done that as well and I think it does help. I usually wait until I can see a tooth coming through to give it and then I give it for a couple of nights in a row. I think Motrin does a better job with older baby teething pain and it lasts longer than Tylenol. Personally, I wouldnt give it for more than a couple of nights in a row.

My DH is the same way an I just give them tylenol when needed, regardless of what he says. Like you said, you are the one getting up with them.

Same here. I will skip a night after a few days to see if it's better and then decide if I should keep giving more.

We've been doing it for the past week or so. These girls have been FUSSY-pants'. Sometimes though if they're doing alright I'll just not give it to them; like PP mentioned.

Medication should only be given when necessary.

One of my girls is EXTREMELY cranky when she teeths, like screaming face beat red mad... so yes, if she has had a bad day of teething I do give her tylenol before she goes to bed- she sleeps much sounder. I agree with the others though, only do it for a couple of nights and then give it a break, she may not need it in a few days. My Ped says Tylenol is very safe and okay to give on a daily basis for teething. My sis does the same thing for her kids too. HTH!

My DS has been doing the same thing.. .He wakes up every hour or so screaming in pain. . .I took him to the dr on Friday b/c I was afraid he had an ear infection. No ear infection though. The dr said he is probably just teething. He suggested that I rub a little orajel on his gums before bed and use tylenol when I think he needs it...I don't like giving unneccesary meds either, but I would rather give him tylenol and orajel than have him screaming in pain... And it seems to be helping quite a bit!

    Good Luck!
