Ok I have a question, how can my twins be in two seperate sacs, but when I went to my last ultrasound they were touching each other. Like twin a had his foot on twin b face. How can they be touching I thought seperate sacs ment they were seperate from one another? If any one knows the answer to this please enlighten me because when it comes to this twin thing I need a "Twins Book For Dummies". Lol

The membranes arent very thick. It can very easily look like they are touching. I hope thats the right answer...

Not sure if this is the right answer either but the membrane is very thin. You have to really look to see it.
I have identical that share the same placenta and I have to really look to see the membrane that seperates them.

Think about the sac being like saran wrap dividing you and someone else. You could certainly still feel that person and even kick them or elbow them or pinch them but you cannot become entangled (cord entanglement) with them because although the membrane is thin, you are ,nonetheless, separated. The membrane with identicals is usually much thinner and harder to make out than with fraternals.

Don't feel bad, everyone seems to think that if they are fraternal they are in separate sacs and if they are identical they are in the same sac which is not true. The only way they would be in the same sac with no dividing membrane is if they are "momo" twins (monoamniotic- monozygotic) which is a very rare condition that affects like 1 in 25,000-60,000 births (depending on your source). It is very high risk and the mother usually always ends up on bed rest from very early on to avoid problems with the babies. It is very frequently misdiagnosed because that membrane is very difficult to see even on a level 2 sonogram. I know because they thought mine were like that. Thank God they were not, I am at 9mo. with no bedrest at all and no complications. Even if they were momo, medical care and monitoring today has allowed even these pregnancies to have much higher success rates than before. Hope this helps... Congrats on your pregnancy and try to enjoy it more than worry. It's a beautiful experience...certainly a blessing!

We talked to our specialist at each u/s and last week he was explaining this to us too. He said the membrane between them is not very thick and has fluid on both sides so it's flexible so that the babies can move around without rupturing the membrane. He said ours is so thin that there is a chance they are identical even that they have two sacs and two umbilical cords but won't confirm until they're born. They could still be fraternal (and I think they are but what do I know?)
