Anyone have twins that are habitual catnappers? My b/g twins are 4.5 mos old and both will only nap usually 30-40 minutes at a time. I may get a 45 or 50 min nap once day. This means I have usually have 5 naps a day! It gets tiring. I watch them very closely for sleepy cues and put them down when I first start seeing them. They usually go down very easy at a 1.5 hour wake time. They were both in swings for naps the last couple months but I just got DD falling asleep on her own in her crib the last three days and she still has short naps. They are both generally happy babies and don't fuss too much. They wake up from naps usually happy to see me. I am guessing as long as they are in good spirits then they are getting the sleep they need. I used to think I was doing something wrong but I guess this is just how they both are.

I hear nap consolidation may occur around 6 mos. I can't wait for it to come.

I did the 5 naps a day too. talk about exhausting! AND totally suck in the house!
My LO did exactly that at about 5 months (adjusted age). According to Weissbluth the nap consolidation can happen as early as 5 months. He recommends to try keeping them up longer before the first nap, good light, stimulating activity and then plan a longer soothing period. The first time I tried it all I got was tired kids. Waited a week and tried it again.. now they have 3 very clear naps and the first two are about 1 and 1/2 hours :yahoo:
At first they could only do the 3 nap thing for about 2,3 days and then it was too much. I would go back to 'sleep when you are tired' (aka - 5 naps a day) for one day and they were good to go again. It has been a week now that they have been good on 3 naps!
We shoot for 9,12,& 3:00 (or something like that)
So.. I think your time is coming.. hang in there!

It's normal between 3-6 months to have cat naps and it usually shakes out by 6 months into longer naps (usually, not always). DS (5 months) finally yesterday took a nap longer than 45 minutes that wasn't in the swing (both of mine will usually take one longer nap in the swing a day, but lately even that hasn't been working).

My singleton cat napped like that until he was almost 6 months old. I would work hard to get one longer nap out of him a day (possible with one as it often involved holding him after he woke up at the 40 minute mark, but not really possible with two unless you use a swing and they like the swing) and then around 6 months he started sleeping 1-1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5-2 in the afternoon. Even with the two longer naps a day he would often take a 30-minute catnap around 5 p.m.

I had terrible cat nappers. I can't tell you the number of posts I wrote on the topic. It took me almost as long to get them to sleep as their nap. Plus, mine had colic in the first months and had major end of day meltdowns thereafter. All those naps were frustrating, but necessary. I think, if yours are generally happy, keep doing what you are doing (i.e. swallow the bitter pill and deal with lots of naps). I regret to tell you that sleep for my twins didn't really get good until they were 18 months old and switched to only one nap, BUT it did eventually get better.

Hang in there and good luck!
