I'm 32 weeks pregnant with twins. They think they're identical, seeing only one placenta but each baby is in his or her own sac. Two weeks ago I had an ultrasound and the tech said one baby was 2 lb 15 oz and the other was 2 lb 14 oz. That sounded great to me. At my doctor's appointment last week he said they are measuring small. He's not concerned at this point but of course, I'm worried. Has anyone experienced this as well?

My twins ran small too - at 30 weeks my twins were about 2lb13oz. They ran small all the way up to delivery at 38w4d, where they were only 5lb2oz and 6lb1oz. We had TTTS, though, so usually my twins were different sizes, but always ran a couple weeks behind. The important thing is that they're growing and following their own growth curve. My peri was not worried about the size because they always grew according to their own curve. Also, at this stage, the placenta can look like one, but really be two that are fused - maybe you'll know after they send the placenta out for analysis after delivery! Good luck, and just make sure they are growing, but the small size can be normal. I guess I just make small babies.

I have heard that the weights can be off by as much as a pound...that said, as long as they keep growing I think that is a good thing. It is great that at least they are aware of this and keeping an eye on it. I bet everything is fine!
Good luck and keep us posted.

They said at my u/s before I had my girls that their weights were 2lb 8oz (Cailyn) and 2lb 14oz (Emily) that was at 30 weeks 1 day they were born 4 days later and weighed 3lb 6oz-C and 4lb-E....so they can be off as PP has said. At that last u/s too they said they were small for their gestation and at birth they were big for their gestation.

keep in mind its an estimate, its not 100%.

Like was mentioned before, how are they growing compared to their previous growth? If they have dropped a lot in their percentiles then I would think that the doctor would want to run another u/s to recheck the measurements. As long as they are growing at the same rate they have been growing at though, then it is nothing to worry about. They're just petite. :)

As was also mentioned in a pp, the ultrasounds can be way off. My girls' weights were right on but I had the same OB taking my measurements every week from week 19 on. My son's weight was over 1 lb off.

Thanks everyone for their input. I definitely feel better about it. I go for another ultrasound this morning to check their size and get a biophysical profile. So far they've been estimating the twins are about an ounce apart in weight so that's good.

    Thanks again,
    Suzanne
