    Hello,

I am new here - actually just found out Friday at 12 weeks that I am expecting twins. My OB did 2 transvaginal sonos and only msaw one but when I went for the nuchal translucency they found 2.
My concern is that they are measuring differently - one of them is just at 11 weeks 6 days but the other is measuring about 10 weeks 4 days - they both have a good heartbeat 160 and 162

I'm terrified - anyone know about this???

    Thank You

My two consistantly measured a week apart all throughout my pregnancy...they were from IVF so we were very sure of dates. My DD ended was smaller then my DS at birth (2.5lbs smaller) They were born at 38 weeks.

OB never concerned (I asked a couple times) as they were fraternal (boy/girl) and there was always consistant growth from u/s to u/s with my DD who was the one who was always a week behind. I've seen many mom's here on TS with the same situation.

I'm sure they will keep an eye out to make sure they are growing properly. They both have great heartbeats.

My twins measured differently the whole time also. You will probably see that sometimes when you go for an ultrasound they will say that they are different weights and sometimes they will be the same. The measurements are not exactly accurate. Sometimes they will not be able to get a good view of the second baby and the measurements are off. And, it can be that they measure differently because they are different babies.

Dont worry about it unless they tell you there is a reason to worry. The important thing is that they show growth and the heartbeat is good.

My identicals where different by almost a 1.5lbs. Baby A was 7lbs 2 oz and the second was 5.5lbs at birth. They are fine and doing well.

    Good luck.

I'd contact your Dr. and ask him- they probably will need to transfer your care to a high risk specialist (my understanding is all twins are automatically high risk). But, if your twins are not in the same placenta then that is not really much of concern. I know many women how have di/di babies who measured several weeks apart, and they were just fine- they were just different babies.

Hi, I'm new here too and in the same situation. Last week I was in the situation at 19 1/2 weeks. One twin was measuring 19w1d (unknown gender/shy baby) and the other 18w2d (boy). I was very nervous and kept calling her about it so OB recommended on Friday that I see a perinatal specialist. She said specifically that it wasn't because she was worried, it was because I was. And that the perinatal would be able to see things on a color doppler and with better equipment. I go on Tuesday and will post about the visit. If you scroll down a bit you will see my original post from last week. I got some great responses that helped me feel better. I think in the case of fraternal twins it's more common to have size differences because they are 2 unique individuals and do not have the same DNA. Try not to worry (I know it is so hard...I feel ya!)

My fraternal twins measured differently too, and if that's not enough, the girl who used to be the bigger of the two, is now the smaller one of the two after 4 weeks. Doc's not too concern as she said its natural for them to be of different sizes and weight as they have different DNA make up, and also possibly that the boy's gonna be bigger than the girl anyway (male being the bigger gender she said). But they'll track their growth everytime we go down, so, TRY not to worry excessively, although I know, its maternal instinct to worry, ain't it darling! ;)

I spoke to my OB today and he tried to tell me that it was normal for their to be differences in size but at the same time, I wanted him to actually see it himself. So I am going on Wed night so him to check everything out. I know I can't change anything, but at least I can talk - maybe that's all that I need.

Thank you to all that have responded and given me some food for thought - I really appreciate it.....

My little guys always measured between a 1-1.5 lbs different each u/s. They were about a pound different at birth - but they are totally different "body types" I have one shorter/stockier and one thin/taller baby. Too cute. It is so hard at this stage b/c everything is new and makes you worry - I totally understand. Hang in there. Never be afraid to ask questions - it's the only way you'll feel better and/or a little less anxious. GOOD LUCK!!
