Twins after twins - anyone?

I lost my baby twin girls (fraternal) at 23 weeks on 3rd November 2010 due to spontaneous premature labour. I am still a complete emotional mess, just taking each day very slowly.

My question though is has anyone had twins after having twins? These were my first babies and I was so excited to be having twins - it was an amazing feeling, but now I cant stop thinking about how (if we ever decide to try again) I would love to have twins again.

Everyone keeps saying how high risk twins are and that I should only want a singelton - but so many people have twins, it isnt impossible.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your girls, Kate. So sorry. You're already a twin mama, you should know, and you always will be. I can't offer any words of advise for what you're going through now, just my sympathy and thoughts. There are some tough ladies on here who can offer you comfort and support through your grief.

As far as twins after twins- sure! The odds aren't insanely high, but we have a member right now who just found out that her second pregnancy is going to bring her a second set of twins. Shocker, for sure! So anything is possible. Don't listen to anything negative from anybody about the feelings your experiencing. You deserve to hurt and to hope and to heal however you need.

 I am so sorry for your loss.

I have a very good friend who has 2 sets of spontaneous fraternal twins. One set of boys and one set of girls. :) It can happen.

I had IVF twins and then got pregnant on my own (w/ dh's help) with another set. Unfortunately I lost one early one. There is currently one gal who is pregnant with her 2nd set here. YOu have a good chance at doing it again! Sorry for your loss but like the PP has stated.. once pregnant with twins, you're always a twin mom. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

I am so very sorry for your loss. Like a PP said, you are and always will be a twin mommy. There is a great forum here with lots of support for parents who have had a loss(es).

It is possible to have twins after twins. There are a few ladies here who I believe have had or are having twins after twins, through IVF and spontaneous.

ANYTHING is possible- twins after twins are certainly possible. But as someone else said- you are already a twin mom and will always be.

I'm so so very sorry for your loss. We lost a litle boy at 14 weeks in Sept '09, so just a little over a year ago. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever gone through. There are no words and the only thing that really brought me comfort was just the quiet understanding of those that had walked the same road and really understood the immense grief. 5 months after his loss we discovered I was pregnant again....with our 2nd set of twins!

There IS hope!! Our 2 sets are completely spontaneous fraternal twin boys. There is no history of twins at all in my side of the family and I know that we are entirely amazingly blessed to have these little guys in our lives. Our 1st set made babies #4&5 and our 2nd set made babies 9&10. So, they were not back to back twin pregnancies but we did eventually have twins again. It is definitely possible.

I hope you get to experience the joy once again of having twins. You will definitely always be a twim mom..... but I hope you get to experience the joy of growing big healthy babies, raising them and seeing them grow as well.

I am so very sorry for your losses. Such terrible things happen in this life. I am just pregnant with my first set of twins, so I can't answer your question, but wanted to let you know that I will lift up prayers for your peace and comfort.

I'm so sorry to hear about your girls. I agree - you are a twin mom and always will be!!! <3

We have 2 sets - our girls are fraternal and the boys are identical. Statistically you have a higher chance of having fraternal twins after you already have a set of fraternals, so that would make your chances anywhere from 5%-20% depending on who you talk to (one mom swears that number is closer to 80%, but I think she made up that statistic - lol). Anyway, you have a higher chance than you did the first time around if that helps.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. It's awful. Take care of yourself, please.

I'm pregnant with a second set of twins - our first set are just 9 months old. So yes, it can happen. I was on fertility drugs last time around, this time it was 100% natural.

Hang in there, I'm thinking about you.
