    Hello Everyone,

Is there anyone here who had a VBAC with twins? Were there any complications? Anyone try it, but it didn't work out?

Or, is anyone here expecting going to try for a VBAC?

I very much wanted a natural delivery for my daughter, but had a c-section because she wa sbreech. My doctor at the time also told me a very scary story about some hemorraging and said I shouldn't attempt a delivery ever. His details seemed strange, however (basically, he said he saw a red spot on my uterus after the section; he said when he touched it, his finger went right through it), and no doctor since thinks that his story makes sense (this was a southern doctor who does something like 80% c-sections and seems to feel the need to justify it).

My current doctor says that none of the story was in my operative records and that she is willing to let me try if even only twin A is head down at the time of delivery. I really would like to try, but part of me wonders if this is too risky. I don't want to absorb too many of the scare tactics, but I'm sure you've all experienced getting loads from having a twin experience, and it's hard to deflect them all.

Just looking to do the right thing for my babies. I did a little research that said that the risks involved with a c-section are greater that the 1% risk of rupture. Only, they say in the rare cases this happens, it's horrible and often fatal. I hated the c-section experience and recovery and felt robbed, but I also don't want to be too proud or take too many risks.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd bet right there, first in line for a VBAC with twins. There are alot of things to weigh. Just stating my choice... I wanted a vaginal birth with my set of twins, but A was breech.

I'm not having a VBAC (these are my first children), but I had a laparotomy that used the same abdominal incision a c-section would.

My doctors are of the opinion that even without the risk of uterine rupture (since my uterus has never been operated on) it would be risky for ALL of us to have a vaginal birth, if anything were to go wrong.

They're willing to let me try, if both babies are head down, baby A is bigger, I have an epidural in place, and everybody cooperates the ENTIRE labor. Both OBs I have talked to in the practice have said that if either baby showed the least bit of distress at any point, it would be an immediate c-section.

Their main issue is with the disection of the scarring of the muscles - if an emergency arose, they would (obviously) need to put the babies' health first and get them out as soon as possible. Which means they couldn't take as much care and time to get through whatever scarring, which could cause more problems for me (bleeding, and then with healing and recovery). And the time it would take to get through any scarring would delay the time to get to the babies.

I know they're being conservative and cautious, and covering their own butts here. If it were just one baby I'd feel better about attempting a vaginal birth. But with twins, with two babies to worry about, and my own health ... I'm going to err on the cautious side and go with the scheduled c-section. I don't want to wind up with an emergency section any more than they want to perform it. I didn't work this hard this long to take chances now.

Just thought maybe another set of doctors' reasoning behind recommending a c-section might be helpful in your decision.

    Good luck!

As an ob/gyn doctor, I'd say it's reasonable to go either way depending on your doctor's comfort. I'm glad to hear that they were thorough enough to actually review your old operative report. For most women it's a very personal decision about whether they want a VBAC or a repeat c/s.
