It looks as though my twins have it. What is it?? Does that mean that the placenta has fused together? If so what does that mean??

I had a u/s tech tell us at 20 weeks with the girls that she saw "twin peaks" and had the hardest time finding information on it. Then I found out that it just is the little peak where the 2 sacs come together - so it's indicative of diamniotic twins. Our girls' placentas had fused, so it could be that too, but it seemed like it was more just the little area where the sacs met. I did a search for it (since it's been 4 years since I heard that term and could be remembering wrong) and couldn't find anything...

I was told too around 22-24 weeks that it is a little peak that is by the placentas. They could barely make mine out because my placentas are so close together and they might have possibly fused together. When my peri told me this that was when she was certain about them being diamniotic. I'm not entirely clear on this issue but this is what I remember from that ultrasound.

I'm not sure but I think you're talking about what's also commonly called the "lambda sign". It is a little peak where the placentas fuse together. This was how they determined that my twins were fraternal. Or at least I think that's what the connection was.

Don't worry, my OB mentioned it everytime I got an u/s and said it was a great indicator that each baby had their own sack and that each had enough fluid, no TTTS risk etc. So if you ever hear twin peaks its something good. :)

I'm pretty sure that it's a di/di twin thing (two placentas), just remember identical twins can be di/di, too. Mine were. We had to do a DNA test to find out for sure.
