    Hi Ladies,

Am now 20 weeks through my first pregnancy and am expecting twins :)

Was checking with you guys about Parenting classes for Multiples..Childbirth preparation classes,Parenting Multiples and Breast-feeding Multiples classes. Are all these classes necessary? Are they really helpful?
    Please guide me..

    Thanks in Advance,

Welcome and congrats! I wasn't that lucky to have that many multiples-specific classes in my area. We went to the one and only multiples class I could find (an overview), and while it didn't give a whole lot of brand new information, we were still glad we went. We also did the "normal" breastfeeding and infant care classes, I figure we still need to know the basics of both. Again, we were glad we went to both. Personally, I didn't mess with taking a childbirth class. I have enough friends that have already had kids I already know what is supposed to happen...in theory. Plus I had a lot of friends take the class and say it was a waste of time. If there were a childbirth class specific for multiples around here I would have taken it, though. Good luck! :)

I took a general breast feeding class that I thought was very helpful. I also took a baby care class for multiples. Mostly it was caring for one baby but how to make time for two. I liked that it included a tour of the hospital and they also touched on breast feeding. I'm a scheduled csection so I didn't bother with the childbirth classes.

I didn't take any classes  though really wish that I would have taken the parenting multiples class that our hospital offered. Unfortunately they only do it 3x a year for some reason & we missed the class that would have worked for us.
We did just fine without any classes, but they wouldn't have hurt :good:

I went to a childbirth/breastfeeding/baby care class while pregnant with our daughter...and it was a complete waste of time. There was no new information, although I'm a big nerd and have a stack of pregnancy/birth books that I read. I'm also an avid googler (not necessarily a good thing ;) ) That being said, it may be worth it to go to a class for multiples, there are obviously huge differences between singleton and twin births, etc.

I didn't do any multiples classes. The only one offered near me was 45 minutes away and not offered till the end of my pregnancy, and I had enough trouble just getting to the (closer) childbirth class, which ended when I was about 28 weeks. We had also signed up for a baby care class, and DH wound up going to that one by himself because I was on home bedrest!

I learned more from this site than I could have learned from a class anyway. Someone I know IRL did give me her binder and notes from her Marvelous Multiples class, which was sort of helpful, not in any really hands-on way but just in helping me get a handle on what the issues would be. But really, you learn most of it just by doing.

I would say that a BF class might be helpful if you are planning to BF. I tried and it didn't work out for me, and I'll always wonder if I might have been more successful if I had done more planning beforehand. But it would have to be a BF multiples class, because the advice on how to BF one baby would be very insufficient.
