    Hello,
I'm new to your forum and I would like to see if any BTDT twin mommies out there might be able to help me find some answers and hope for my baby girls.

I went to the peri today for my anatomical survey. The dating used by dr office places me at 19 weeks 4 days. Fertility Friend Pregnancy lists me at 19 weeks 2 days. Not sure if 2 days make a heck of a difference, just thought I'd include that nugget.

Baby A; Head measured at 17.3 weeks, abdomen at 18.0 weeks and femur at 19.5. Weight is given as 11 oz

Baby B: Head at 17.2, abdomen at 16.9 (let's call it 17 for the sake of my sanity) and femur at 19.5. Weight is given at 10oz.

    Both babies are girls.

We had a daughter last year who died shortly after birth. MRI and autopsy show her brain stopped developing for some unknown reason around 10-14 weeks. The pregnancy was filled with worry and plain fear. I was told often the goal of my pregnancy with Sophie was to not have a still born baby. She moved but not with great vigor and was born small, 3lbs 4 oz. 15" long. I cannot being to tell you of my pain.

The peris today have laid out the fact that they are concerned that our twin daughters are affected with whatever happened to our angel Sophie. This is the first set of measurements for our twins. The girls are di-di twins. Both are so active. They were kicking the snto out of each other. I was just amazed watching them. I kept thinking "this is nothing like my beloved Sophie. She acted nothing like this". Our Sophie had a 2 vessel cord (1 artery + 1 vein). Today we found out the twins have 3 vessel cords. I victory, I feel like!

Our daughter had a VSD that was discovered approx 24-27 weeks. I am GD and I have hypertension and I'm pretty fluffy lady to start with. To date, I have only gained 10lbs with the twins. I follow a strict carb limited diet and I take metformin and lantus...and today was started on short acting insulin. Oh the joy of more needles. But I will do what I need to do for my girls.

Have any mommies out there have any experience - Good Out come or Bad out come - with your twins measuring in a similar manner? I am looking for reassurance that I am not a genetic freak. We were tested genetically after our daughter passed away. She and myself and husband have good screens. My NTs this time were excellent.

I'm sorry for the long post. I appreciate any insight and information anyone can share.

I am scared beyond my wildest imagination. I have buried one daughter. I just pray I will not have to bury 2 more.

    Many thanks,
Laura, Baby Evie & Baby Isobel

Laura, first off, I am so sorry for your loss of Sophie. I can't imagine your pain. I wish I had measurements I could share with you, but I had b/g frats, so I dont' think they'd mean anything. I just wanted to welcome you to twinstuff and wish you a healthy pregnancy. We look forward to getting to know you.

Thank you I appreciate the welcome!

Yes, the hardest journey I have made to date in my life.
I take one step every day.
Some are more painful and slow than others.
It is a journey that brings me closer to my Sophie though.

There aren't specific measurements, but have you taken a look at the Gestational Weights by Ultrasound charts? They can be found in the sticky section of this forum (at the top)...that might help you out at least with their overall size...sorry I can't be of more help, I never took especial note of the other measurements...

Thank you, had not seen that.
Yes, A was 11 oz today and B was 10 oz. So A is bigger (slightly) and B is right on target.

    Laura,

I am so sorry for the loss of Sophie.

I went for my first ultrasound at what I thought was 19w5d. First shock was to find out their were two babies in there and second shock was that they both were measuring 18w5d (I don't know all the exact measurements like femur/head etc. but they did change my due date based on this ultrasound).

I am sure of my dates but they insisted that no, I was a week behind. They both weighed 9oz at that point. Fast forward to 37w5d and my girls were born at 6-14 and 7-1 completely healthy!

I know it's hard not to worry, I know sometimes depending on the position of the babies, it's hard for them to get perfect measurements and the measurements can also vary from tech to tech. I think the weights of your girls are fantastic and it sounds like they are doing well! When is your next scan?? Could you possibly ask for one a little earlier just to ease your worries??

    Big

Plus I'm a fluffy lady...I wonder if this is changing some of the readings. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking. I think the weights of your girls are fantastic and it sounds like they are doing well! When is your next scan?? We go on July 8 for fetal echocardiograms on the girls. Could you possibly ask for one a little earlier just to ease your worries??they will only measure for growth every 3 weeks. Not a day sooner. So the girls have until July 21 to grow grow grow.

My sizes are not similiar to yours, but one of my twins (mo/di) always measured smaller because he was growth restrictected. His head was always bigger than his body. He was born early and tiny - 1lb 15oz to his brothers 3lb 14oz but now, 17 weeks later is doing exactly as he should.
My thoughts are with you, your partner and Evie and Isobel (such beautiful names!) I was over 200lbs when I conceived my twins. Please don't feel that this is caused by you being generously proportioned!
Take hope in that it did not seem to be a genetic factor in your angel Sophie's death.

Welcome Laura and i'm sorry to hear of your loss and the worries you are having now. Burying a baby is one of those things you pray you never have to experience and when it happens its not simply devastating, but no one understands unless they've been there. Being pregnant after losing your lil one makes you that much more paranoid, especially with twins. We lost our lil boy Jaret last year and this pregnancy i have been paranoid since day 1. We are expecting di/di boys this time around and their measurements have never fully lined up between femur, head, etc. The weights of your lil girls sound good, and i pray they continue to grow healthy. Feel free to pm me and keep your hopes up.

At 19 weeks with my daughter I had my ultrasound and I was told she was in the 35th %tile for weight. She was measuring behind by 1 week 5 days. I was really afraid since we lost her twin at 6 weeks. I am a plus size girl (over 250lbs with my daughters pregnancy). Her fluid levels were on the low side as well so my OB made another ultrasound appt. 2 weeks later with a specialist. At 21 weeks my daughter was in the 60th %tile and was 5 days farther along then my due date. Her fluid level were also fine at that point. We had just thought the 1st tech didn't know what she was doing and messed up the readings. From that point on I got bi-weekly u/s until 32 weeks when the fluid levels dropped again and got weekly u/s until I was induced at 35 weeks 5day b/c her fluid had dropped pass the "safe" zone. For every u/s after 21 weeks my daughter was bigger then average (I had gestational diabetes). The day before I had her my u/s tech said she was 6lbs 7oz. At birth she was only 5lbs 10oz. So #1 u/s are NOT accurate. I wouldn't worry until you've had more that two that measure them behind. Also #2 a fetus will go through the same growth spurts children do. That is why my high rish OB wont do the anatomy scan until after 20 weeks (to make sure they hit the 16-19 week growth spurt) and #3 I learned from my records that b/c I was plus size they had a hard time getting the baby's readings. Maternal fat can make it very hard to get a proper reading. So at this point I would be concerned but not worried. I would also ask for another u/s in 2 weeks if I were you. Try not to give up hope. It is NEVER your fault. We cant control things like this and it is very normal for babies to measure "off" from their due dates. ( My twins measure 5 days behind at my last u/s). Good luck and keep us posted on how things go :)

  13. I am sorry for your loss I cant even imagine but I cant believe the lord would burden you with that kind of pain twice in your life. My prayers are with you and your children. Well I am newly pregnant too and I am 22 weeks pregnant with b/g twins. I have type 2 diabetes not gestational and I am "fluffy" as well. To date I have gained 2lbs total and my doctor said this is not a problem as long as the babies measurements are good. I feel like ive lost in other areas and its moving to the baby bump. Your measurements were just slightly larger than mine at 20wks and the doc told me mine were on track even with my girl having single artery. I looked at the growth charts on this forum and im going to keep comparing as I am quite nervous about growth as well. Just keep your head up its going to be ok.

Tonight I chatted with a friend out of state who has 2 daughters. 3 days before her first daughter was born they estimated the baby's weight at a bit under 8 lbs. 3 days later the baby was born weighing 9 lbs 12 oz. I do not believe for one second that baby gained that much weight in 3 days.

It is the same with your experience.

I have never heard of a growth spurt between weeks 16-20. That is very interesting!

With our beloved Sophie's pregnancy they brought up abdominal fat several times. This time, no one has said a peep about it. I'm in the same practice, everything. I didn't lose a lot of weight before my 2nd pregnancy. MOstly b/c I didn't have time. The peris in the practice told me I did not have time to wait given my advanced age. I am 34. But in the land of multiples I am already AMA. Which is hard for me to fathom.

I keep seeing my beloved daughter as she was passing away. that is the strongest image. I am working so hard to replace that with an image of 2 chubby healthy babies with normal brains and hearts and organs.
