First let me explain that I have 10 month old twins and my sister just had twins 2 weeks ago. Last Wed. I was going over her house to help her take the new babies to their doctor appt. I certainly know how hard that can be in those first few weeks! Well, when I got to my sister's house I found out that she needed to go to the doctor's herself with some pretty serious postpartum complications, but she was very concerned that the babies were going to miss their appt/weight check, etc. So I said, "I can bring them! NO problem." And so within 40 minutes I got the 2 babies and my 2 older nephews ready, packed up, into the van and to the doctor's office on time totally by myself! I got them undressed and dressed, changed a bunch of diapers, gave 2 bottles, did the appts and then dropped my older nephew off at school. And the crazy thing was is that although it was hard, I knew I could do it, because I've had sooooo much practice this year with my own twins!!!!!!!! The hardest part for me was actually doing the bottles because I breastfed, and I had no idea what I was doing with the bottles!! :unknw:

So anyway, I was just thinking earlier this week that I am still in survival mode with my own babies, feeling overwhelmed and wondering when this is going to get easier. Then this experience of bringing my sister's twins to the doctors made me stop and realize how far I've really come. It was like just another day in the life of having twins and I realized I actually am doing alright! Not too many people could do what I had to do that day. And so I felt kinda proud of myself :) It gave me a little boost of confidence that I needed. I know that I am in a different stage right now with my own babies who are moving around everywhere, putting everything in their mouths, and clinging on to my legs so I can't walk across my kitchen to make supper for my husband and older two children! But I will get through these challenges too...and hopefully will be able to help my sister when she gets to that point.....although by next Christmas we will have four 1 year olds, between the two of us.....now THAT should be interesting!!!!!!!!

Way to go!! I think it is so awesome that both you and your sister have twins. I bet if it hasn't already, it will bring the two of you even closer. :)

I did not mention that she ended up having problems with hemorrhaging. They gave her some medicine on Wed. to try to help things, but then on Christmas Day it ended up happening again. SHe ended up with an emergency D and C and almost a hysterectomy, but they were able to avoid it. Apparently, there was still a piece of placenta really stuck in there and that was causing all the problems. It was one of the scariest days of my life. She lost a lot of blood. Fortunately, she is doing much better now and is home from the hospital. I'm hoping to go there tomorrow and help her...it's good to feel like I have the opportunity to "pay her back" for all she has done to help me (not that she expects it). I always joked and said I'd never be able to pay her back!! And now surprisingly enough, she has twins and I CAN pay her back!!! :)

So glad she's doing better and way to go for getting everyone where they needed to be etc! No one besides other twin moms could ever understand how much of an accomplishment that is, you should be so proud of yourself for sure! I bet it will be awesome to be able to relate to your sis in that way. I wish on so many days that other people around me would "get it". Good job momma!!!
