Twin Carriers/Slings?

    Hi,

Congrats to all of you on the arrival and first years with your twins! This may sounds silly, but one thing that disappointed me a little when we found out we were expecting twins was that we wouldn't be able to use a sling or baby-bjorn type product with them. I obviously have some time to research this, but it just occurred to me to Google "twin carrier" and I do see that there are a few, though they don't look very comfortable! I wondered if any of you use them at all, and if so what kind (sling/backpack, front/back, one at a time/two at a time, brand name, etc).

    Thanks!

I'm a big fan of carriers and slings, but my back hurts just looking at that thing! I use a regular baby bjorn (we have two hand-me-downs) if I want to just keep one of them with me while I do things around the house. In the beginning, if one wouldn't nap, I'd put him/her in the bjorn or laying in my tube sling and they would rest while I was mobile. If DH and I went out together (shopping, to a park, etc.) we'd each carry one in a bjorn or sling. Now that they are bigger, I still use the bjorn once in a while around the house if someone seems like they need some extra attention (but DS definitely gives me a bach ache after some time!), and you can actually crisscross two tube slings once the babies can kind of sit up on your hip for extra support lugging both of them.

I bought a Weego Twin front carrier and found the babies got too heavy very quickly for me to walk very far. I use my double stroller for walks and we also have two single front carriers that DH and I use quite a bit when we can walk together, or if one is napping and I put one baby in the carrier while I do some house work.

I had two carriers and they never got much use. Most of the time they were in the twin stroller or I was holding them. I think a twin carrier would be painful on your back. And not possible if you have a c-section which most twins are born that way.....

I had major medical complications postpartum and absolutely required help to lift and carry one baby. We got the moby wrap which allows one baby to be carried in it or two. It's very comfortable and spreads the weight evenly over your shoulders and hips. I strongly suggest looking into it.

I also got a moby wrap and love it! Wish I'd had it from day one, because you can do skin-to-skin time that way so easily in the NICU or at home, without being shirtless or cold. IT also has good lower back support because of the way you tie it, so it's been more comfortable than many other carriers I've
    used or own.

You can't carry twins together once they get bigger really, unless you strap one on the front and one on the back. But even at 4 months I've been able to carry them together in my Moby.

Here is a photo gallery so you can see what some of your options are!

The twin carrier would be difficult to use for long, IMO, b/c the weight would become too great for your back. This is what I've heard mom's say. However, you can always buy one and try it for yourself. You may find that it works for you for a time, or that it works out for a longer duration. Also, try looking this up on Amazon.com, so you can read the reviews. I wish you the best of luck.

After 13 weeks of bedrest, I was too weak to wear my babies. I remember seeing some great photos/demonstrations at The Babywearer website about wearing twins. You might check them out.

We have 2 Bjorns and DH wears one, I wear the other. But mostly, I push them in the stroller.

I read the review and look like thi sis good.
Might be experience mommy will tell us how it is good or bad.

I do own one of the Maximom twin carriers. I have put both of my babies in it at once and have taken them for a walk, but they do get quite heavy! The nice thing about the Maximom carrier is that it can be separated into two separate carriers for two people and combined into one for carrying both. Cheaper than buying 2 Baby Bjorn and easier to get in/out of.

Wrapping was the easiest for me. I liked to wear one on front one on back. It was easy to remain upright and not hurt from being unbalanced. I know it may seem intimidating, but after a few tries, it it easy!

I had a Maya wrap, which actually came with a video demonstrating all the different ways to use it, including a couple of ways to use it with twins, but first, I wasn't able to get them both in it with out help, and if there was someone, like DH or SIL around to help me with that, then they just carried the other baby in another carrier. Then, like someone else said, they quickly got too big for me to do much with both of them in there!. I did use it when one was sleeping and I could do things around the house with the other one in the sling. I did use my double stroller a lot (and for several years), I'd say put the money you'd spend on a sling into your stroller as it is a much better investment.

I had the maxi one posted above and had to return it. It came with a video on how to use it and it was still near impossible to get the babies in it and then put it on. I wish I had the moby wrap.
