    Hi Everyone
I'm visiting from the expecting board and had a quick question. We just found out we are having boys :D . They are in separte sacs and most likely sep. placentas (they had trouble seeing 2, but a previous ultrasound make them pretty sure of 2). I was just curious how many of you had a similar situation and if your boys were id. or frat.. I know our chances are more for frat, but the docs kind of made me think chances were good for id. They said boy/boy twins were more rare and they saw a higher occurance of id. in boy/boy. Has anyone heard this? It really doesn't matter to us, I just find myself obsessing over the thoughts  Thanks!!

My boys had seperate sacs and placentas. Docs, told me they were fraternal. As they are getting older they are starting to look a whole lot alike. I even get them confused at times! Especially when dh puts them in the other ones crib. So, I could not tell you whether my boys are id or fraternel, yet. I never heard that about boy twins being rare, pretty neat!
    Congrats on your pregnancy!

Hmm, that's odd - I've read that with IDs, it's 50/50 whether they're bb or gg, and with frats, the gender chances are also about equal (though I can't remember whether it's 25 bb, 50 bg, 25 gg, or 33/33/33...).

Anyway, yet another surprise to look forward to when you deliver! :)

I have boy/boy twins as well--definitely frat! They had separate sacs and placentas, but their placentas fused. When I saw the placentas at the hospital (very cool, btw, I highly recommend having a look!!!) they looked like one placenta with two cords!

Live births of b/b twins are the most rare because serious genetic problems affect males more commonly than females.

fraternal boys here. Separate everything. We also used Clomid, so while PG, I figured they'd be fraternal, as it was likely I just released two eggs.

At first we were told that I had two placentas and two sacs. But, the pathology report says that it was either one placenta or that it fused (I can't remember) and our boys are definitely identical (there's a picture of them on my blog in my signature).

Very clearly two placentas since they implanted anterior/fundal and posterior/low-lying (it doesn't get any further apart than that) and I have ID boys. I've heard that ID twinning occurs more frequently in females than males but I'm pretty sure fraternals are 25bb/25gg/50bg.

fraternal b/b twins here. there's probably a 10-20% chance of them being identical in your situation.

We're not sure if my boys are ID or frat, but we're leaning more towards fraternal. I'm amazed that some doctors assume if there are two placentas then they are frat., but that's not always true. We thought all during my pregnancy that we had identical boys since there was only one placenta. When it was examined, they discovered that it was two fused. Now we have no idea!

    Here's their pic:

Either way, two boys is so much more fun than I thought it would be! I love them so much, I'm ready to try for more (even if they are boys!).

[SIZE=10pt]I have b/b twins and we are pretty sure they are ID. All of the u/s showed only one placenta and when they were born the doctor said she was pretty sure there hadn't been two that fused but I was her 8th c-section that day and 3rd set of twins in 48 hours so I don't think she was looking that closely. The older they get the more I think they may be fraternal but everyone else seems to think they are ID. Here is a picture of them

Boy/boy here...separate everything in the womb....We don't know yet if they are ID or Frat. They do have the same blood type. Besides the weight difference the do look alike. As Lucas gets a bit more fat on his face he looks more and more like his brother. We will wait a bit then see what happens as they grow, and if need be get the testing done.

B/B twins here and there was never any question as to whether they were fraternal. :icon_biggrin:

Separate everything. Definitely fraternal. You could tell from the 3d/4d u/s that we had two VERY different looking babies in there. Oh yeah, and the early u/s showed where the two eggs came from.

boy/boy, di/di, fraternal - it was pretty clear on our u/s that they were di/di, own placentas and everthing, but because an early egg split can still result in di/di twins, my OB said she could say with 100% certainty if they were ID or frat until after they were born. after they were born, we confirmed they had different blood types, so we didn't have to do any DNA test - plus they look pretty different to me.

and yes, I've also heard b/b twins are least common, specifically, b/b ID twins - like a pp said, because of more genetic issues.

good luck with your babies! ;)

Boy/Boy Di/Di here, too. No question about it -- one is blonde haired, blue eyed and the other is brown haired and brown eyed -- and there is a 1.5 lb difference between them!

My fertility u/s showed that I was releasing 2 eggs, one from each side. My early u/s's showed 2 placentas, but they did fuse relatively early on. Both my boys have the same blood type, but are definitely fraternal. Some have a hard time telling them apart, but most don't!

we have b/b ID twins (mono/di) -- from early u/s we were sure they were ID. From what I've read, of the five types of twin births, about 40% are fraternal boy/girl, followed by girl/girl fraternal and boy/boy fraternal. Identical twins are the least common, with boy/boy identical representing the least common percentage of all twin births

Separate sacs and separate placentas that fused here. My boys are fraternal. I don't know any actual numbers but I've always heard that girls are more likely to be momo or modi id twins, and boys were more likely to be didi id twins.

    First of all, congrats!

My boys are almost 5 weeks old, and we're pretty sure they're ID. They had separate sacs but one placenta (mono/di), and they look EXACTLY alike. Granted, I know it's early, but...

When they were born they weighed exactly the same, they were the exact same length, their head circumferences were the same, their APGARs were the same...and they have the same blood type (AB+, like Mommy). My OB said that they're most likely ID. Check out pix on our blog...and you can see how much alike they look. They're starting to look a bit different, but that's only because Will is heavier (we nicknamed him "Chunk").

    HTH!

Boy/Boy and Di/Di here also but mine look very similar (same exact hair/eye color, same height, weight has only been a few ounces off at times) One has a rounder face and wider chest width which makes him look a little bigger then his twin. I do question because I don't know their blood type and they didn't confirm at the hospital the tech just always said they were frat based on them being Di/Di. I don't have a problem telling them apart but most everyone else does. I want to eventually get a DNA done just for my knowledge because everytime I am asked this question I don't know if I have the right answer, ya know?

My boys are fraternal- seperate sacs and placentas- they look and act nothing alike! One looks like me when I was a baby, the other my husband- it's very funny!

Boy/boy here and we had separate sacs with a nice membrane for each. I have never heard that frat boys were the more "rarer" kind.

My boys are id, one placenta, two amniotic sacs. My doc told me from the beginning that I probably had frats, since she said she saw s seperating membrane that represented two placentas at an early ultrasound. When I had my csection, she said that my two placentas must have fused together to form one, but the pathology report revealed one placenta. I knew they were ID as soon as they came out. They look identical, and they had the same blood type, so I thought they probably were.

    Congrats on your twin boys!!

We were told our boys were frat because of seperate sacs and seperate placentas, now that I know that isn't alway the case I'm not sure. I always say there fraternal but more and more people are starting to get them mixed up and say are you sure are you really sure, so now I'm starting to doubt myself. They have the same hair and eye colour and blood type.
