Twin beds or share a queen?

Discussion in 'The Toddler Years(1-3)' started by sstroessner404, Jan 3, 2012.

My girls just turned two at the end of October. We're hoping to move them into big girl beds in the next couple of months and we're trying to decide if we should get separate twin beds or have them share a queen. Any thoughts?

My girls share a queen size futon mattress on their floor but that's because we had an extra one kicking around that we weren't using for anything else. Had we needed to purchase mattresses we would have gone with two twins because I expect that at some point they will want seperate beds. If you buy two & they want to sleep together for now you can always put the mattresses on the floor & push then together.

I never considered anything but twin beds. They enjoy sharing a room, but they definitely sleep better with a little space between them. (We have their beds arranged in an L shape so they can't see each other when they're lying down.) I wouldn't think sharing a bed would be a long-term solution (when they're 5? 8? 10?) so if you plan to get twin beds at any point, I would just get them now.

My boys have shared a room since birth and right now at 4 are in toddler beds. I plan on moving them to twin size beds this summer. I know they enjoy having their own bed to sleep in. We have a camping trailer and they share a full size bed when we go, but I know they sleep better when they are at home in their own bed.

I debated this as well, I shared a bed with my youngest sister until i was nearly 16 with no detrimental long term effects ;) However, we're planning on getting a bunk bed set anyways down the line so we're going to get ahead and get one now and split the beds up for them :)

I'd do separate beds so they have the option. Mine often end up in the same bed together anyway, but if they're bugging each other they can at least move to their own bed.

We went with twin beds...my thought was that this would be better both in long term and in the short term (in case one couldn't make it to the bathroom in time....).

We started out using their cribs turned into toddler beds but one of my daughters didnt do so well with that so they now share a queen bed.....They love it!

Btw, we only have twin mattresses on the floor right now, and they're pushed against each other... so it's like a king size bed for both of them, but we have the option of separating them later (which will be pretty much when they ask for their room).
