Okay so i am a little freaked out and the doc is a little worried. U/s was great. i love seeing the boys. They did measurements and my baby b is measring 2 weeks behind. Baby A is on track.. B is breech and A is transverse. Has this ever happened to any of you. I know that there can be differences in size but holy moly i think this is a lot. The peri says he is going to be watching the growth closely. What happens if he continues to not grow as much as the other? i am hoping and praying its just genetics and one is naturally small and the other normal. I don't want to stress over this, but i want to be prepared. Please say a prayer. Any advice and or comments are appreciated.

how far along are you?? if this is the first u/s that showed that big of a change, then maybe the baby was just laying differently and it was harder to get accurate measurements. that happened with my girls, when we went back for a follow up u/s, they were flipped back around and they were a little closer together in weight, although one was about a pound smaller than the other. good luck and i will keep you all in my prayers!!

My baby B, my little girl, has always been smaller than baby A, my boy. And the gap between them continues to grow (a 30% difference now). She is now a full lb and a half smaller. I have been monitored for this by U/S for 10 weeks now, every other week. They check the umbilical cord to make sure there is good blood flow and nothing wrong. At this point she is still growing just not as quickly as the boy. So the doctors are not worried about it. My doctor thinks its just genetics and possibly that her placenta is not in an optimal place to receive nutrients.
I think as long as the dopplers of the cord are normal and the baby continues to gain then there is nothing to worry about.
Easier said than done, because I freak out about it too sometimes! But my doctor reassures me over and over that she's ok.

I just called to see when he (peri) wanted to see me next and its not for another month! Should i insist on something sooner. When he said he was going to watch him closley i thought at least every 2 weeks.

There has always been in a difference in size but ranging only from days to about a week. This is the biggest. I was 20w2d yesterday and B was only measuring 18w even. I guess i will just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

    Thank you all for responding...

I also have the same problem, but my twin A is measuring small. She has been since my 18week u/s. At that time she was closer to 2 weeks behind. I ended up having another u/s at 20 weeks and she was 3 weeks behind, but good blood flow and good fluid levels. Last friday at 26 weeks I had another u/s and she is still 3 weeks behind. Her blood flow is getting a little slower and her fluid level is decreasing a little. They are still both ok. I don't have another u/s until I am 30 weeks. The reason behind it is there is nothing we can do right now. She needs to survive on her own until at least the next u/s. If they tried to take the babies now, there is a chance they would both die. After 30 weeks there is a much better chance. I agree with my doctor. So, basically, at the next u/s if she is going into distress, then he will give them both steroid shots and send me to a major city about an hour away where they have better NICU's. I am fine with that. I want them to have the best care possible.

There are a lot of ladies that responded to my string and they had quite a few good ideas. Basically, I am going to try to lay on my left side as much as possible to increase the blood and nutrition flow to the babies and also start to drink Boost. I am not going to drink much now since I am still able to eat, but as my appitite dies down I will drink more.

    Good luck!

Are your twins mono/di, mo/mo or fraternal? If they are fraternal, it could be genetics playing a role. If they are sharing a placenta, I would request another u/s sooner than four weeks from now to help rule out further discordance and to check for TTTS symptoms. (The TTTS Foundation website is a good place to look for questions to ask your doc when an u/s is done.) Also, it could be a placental share issue where one baby has more of the placenta to get nutrition from and the smaller baby has less. Or it could just be that the u/s technician was off in a margin of error and that the size discordance is not so wide.

I have mono/di twins with TTTS and suspected placental share issues. Both babies' heads measure a little above their gestational age, but one baby measures one week behind gestational age in the belly while the other is 2 to 3 weeks ahead. They are both still hanging in there and growing on their own growth curves. I am monitored 2X weekly at the MFM with u/s now so they can make sure that both babies are still growing and getting something from being inside the womb. At some point, they may have to be evicted because they might be safer in the NICU.

I'd push for a sooner u/s just to reassurance yourself and to give yourself plenty of time to make decisions if something does need to be done to help your babies.

This is very similar to our situation. Baby B was growing slower and smaller than Baby A due to IUGR / endo-diastolic reversal of blood flow. Basically he was eating/breathing through the umbilical like it was a straw. Baby A was doing just fine. We started 2x week monitoring with the specialist at 24 wks. The specialist was very concerned because he knew from prior experience that eventually the blood flowing through the umbilical to the heart would make the heart have to work harder and eventually it would give up and the flow would reverse itself. He said there was nothing I could have done to prevent this, to fix it, nor would I feel anything if I lost Baby B. At 26 weeks I was admitted for 24 hour monitoring. We made it to 28wks 6days. Baby A was born 2lbs 15oz, Baby B was born at 1lb 7oz.

They are 3 weeks old and still in the NICU but are doing extremely well. Some of the success is due to the fact that I had two separate rounds of steroid shots to help their lungs develop. Today Baby A is 3lbs 7oz, and Baby B is almost 2lbs.

    I love my Peri-MFM.

Your peri is probably waiting because the accuracy of the size measurements is difficult to nail down if it's less than 3 weeks apart. That's what I was told. We only started doing the 2x week sessions once we made it to 24 weeks because they had a chance of viability at that point.

    Good luck!

THIS HAPPENED WITH MY LAST SET OF TWINS. THOMAS WAS CONTINUALLY SMALLER THAN TESS FROM ABOUT 25 WEEKS. MY OB THOUGHT IT BETTER THAT THEY GROW INSIDE ME FOR AS LONG AS THEY COULD. WHEN THOM STOPPED GROWING ALTOGETHER, THEY TOOK THEM BY C-SECTION (37 WEEKS). AT BIRTH, TESS WAS 6-12 AND THOMAS 4-1. THOMAS WAS IN THE NICU FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. THEY ARE BOTH PERFECT NOW.
