    Hey all,

Just had to write to say that I seem to be turning a corner with the nausea and throwing up. I have had 2 sick free days in a row. Ok, last night was a bit tricky and it was a struggle to hold on, but I made it through. I am so happy!! My appetite still hasnt really increased yet, but I am cautiously optimistic that I am getting past the worst.

    How is everyone else doing??

    Congrats!

I'm doing well. :blbl: Spring in Austin so I'm having some allergy issues, but as you know that is the price we pay here.

DW is doing fine also. :D She is still having some minor bouts of nausea and fairly frequent headaches, but nothing too severe. She is definitely improving and hopefully will be feeling good by the 2nd trimester. We started back doing aerobics last week and she is tolerating that well. In fact, it seems to be helping her quite a bit. Get the blood flowing and all that, you know...

I had a nausea free day yesterday and I was able to get the house picked up a little bit! That was nice. I'm hoping to continue with this because my dog is having pups in a few days and that is a lot of work! I would hate to feel sick all day and night while dealing with all that.

Here's my question for everyone, (since this is supposed to be a daily chat thread): What is the first thing that you bought since you found out you were having twins? Or is it too early to shop?!

I went out and bought cloth diapers when I found out I was prego, plus wipes, chlorine free diapers, and some glass bottles for back up. But I haven't bought a single thing since I've found out it's twins!! It's all so overwhelming! :)

Hmmm... a bottle of tequila? :drinks:

    Two bottles??? :rotflmbo:

That's a tough one. I suppose the onesies, but I actually got those a couple of weeks before the ultrasound. (We had a good idea that it was twins or more based on the bloodwork.) I went to Zazzle and had 2 onesites printed that say "We're so special it took a whole team to make us!" I showed them to DW while she got dressed after the first ultrasound. At that point #2 was a 'maybe' so it wasn't the joyful moment it should have been.

DW wants to buy furniture already, but I'm holding out until the end of the first trimester at least. We found a set we both really liked... only to find out it is discontinued. I need to get back over there and see if they have 2 cribs, and/or if we'd be buying the floor models, if we get a nice fat discount, and if we would still be able to get the conversion kit(s).

Hello everyone! I am new to this board. I am pregnant with twins (through IVF) and am 9 weeks today. I am so sorry to hear that many of you are not feeling well. I have to say that I expected that I would not feel well at all since I get sick even when I am on birth control pills and I usually get migraines at least 5-6 times a month. HOWEVER, so far I have been feeling pretty good. The best thing is that I haven't had any migraines (knock on wood) because when I get them, the only way to get through is to take my prescription meds (which I can't do while pregnant).

I am however, in this constant state of fatigue. All I want to do is sleep or veg out and read a book. I am so unproductive lately and I just can't force myself to do even the most basic things like grocery shopping, cooking dinner or doing laundry. Needless to say, I am running out of socks - so I am revving myself up to get it done tonight - both laundry and groceries!!

Carieco - good luck with the pups. I hope your nause-free days continue! Same to you, Sparkle 77!!

The only things we have bought so far were some plain white onesies. We were at the Carter's outlet and bought them in several sizes.
Have a good evening everyone! Wish me luck getting my chores done. :)

Hope22 -- I know what you mean .... there have been several days where we have had no food in the cabinets because I can't make it to the grocery store, and there have been a couple of times now where dh has to wash his own work clothes! lol I'm such a bad house wife! :p

I had bought the white onesies a long time ago when I was dreaming about babies ... but I definately think we will have to buy more now!

Mike-- I'm buying my baby furniture from a local lady and we have to order it in ... she said the plant shuts down for the month of July, and then they usually have back orders. So I'm nervous that if I wait till Aug, it will take a while to come in and then what if the babes come early?! So I guess I'm like your wife and am anxious to buy the furniture now! I don't think we'll get two cribs though ... but since it's twins .... I think we will definately have to get an extra dresser.

    Welcome Hope and congrats! :welcome:

Don't worry about slacking too much, just assure your DH it won't be permanent! In all seriousness, break it up into small tasks and do something on most days. Pregnant or not, if you kill yourself doing it all one day and then you're not going to do anything for the next week so you'll wind up in the same place. You can always buy more socks...

Carrie - I suggested we only get one crib for the time being. We're most likely moving to New Mexico next year. We won't actually need 2 cribs before then so why move them, risk damage, etc? However, DW wants all the furniture to match, which I can understand. We're talking about one dresser because we simply don't have room in the nursery. Though perhaps we should get a second matching dresser (and skip the armoire) since eventually they'll have their own rooms. But then I guess we'd need 2 of each... I think I'm going to have to take out a loan! :rotflmbo:

I know what you mean about getting it out of the way. I've already traded my 2 oncall weeks for Sept/Oct ... though now I have 3 straight weeks in July! Do you know how early do you need to order the furniture to get it before the shutdown?

I have not bought one single solitary item yet. But I think we might after today's nuchal scan, which shows the babies doing really well. I think we had been waiting.

Hi everyone... my first post other than my intro post. I can see that I'm going to get addicted to this board. And at 6 weeks 2 days, I've got a long time to be addicted. :FIFblush:

Glad the nausea is finally subsiding... I have had quite a bit more with this pregnancy, but haven't thrown up. Just a general sick feeling. And way more tired than my other pregnancies. Although having an almost 2 year old to chase around after contributes a lot to that.

I haven't bought a single thing, and don't plan to for awhile. Probably after the first trimester, I'll start checking craigslist for some of the things I want to buy used. Thankfully, we have the items left over from my son, so we only have to get the 2nd items and anything we'll need if we end up having girls. (I would so like at least one!) A friend is giving me her car seat and extra bases, so that's one thing out of the way out of hundreds.

Anyone elses mind just keep racing all the time... I'm serious type A person and a control freak, so my mind is whirling about all the details I should be planning for.

Have you guys told everyone or are you waiting or what? I've told my close friends and our immediate family (although i guess I haven't yet called DH's parents :FIFblush: - that'll be this evening since DH is off work). Have no idea when I will tell my boss... he wasn't thrilled when I had Jacob, so this should be fun - or not. (Been there 10 years and he doesn't like my attention off of him for any reason....)

Okay, I'll stop rambling now. Been up since before 5 - couldn't sleep (that will backfire on me around 11 today) and Jake still isn't up yet at 6:45 a.m. Would have been a great day to sleep in - oh well.

Mike, I love the idea of buying more socks! Why didn't I think of that?? :D Really, I would like to move into a hotel, so they would do the cleaning, cooking and everything else for the next 7 months. But back to the real world...I did hear that you tend to gain energy back in the second trimester, so that's good.

Are you all buying cribs that convert into beds? I was curious if those work well or not. I am actually going to borrow a crib from a friend and then probably buy another one on Craig's list. I found one that is the exact same style but different color of wood - they won't match perfectly, but hey - it's cheap, right?

Sparke - what is a nuchal scan? I have not heard that term before.

Stacey - I have only told close friends and family as well. Mostly because all of them knew what we were going through with IVF. But it is really hard to keep the secret at work, especially because 3 people here (good friends) know. But I work in a school and once all of the other staff knows, then kids might find out - and I really want to wait for a while on that. The crazy thing is, the lady that I emailed about the crib on Craig's list - called me and I found out that she is good friends with a teacher at my school. I asked her to please not tell her my secret! What are the odds?!?

Well, I will stop rambling and get back to work. My husband is going out of town this weekend, and although I will miss him - that means I can be extra lazy without feeling guilty! :p

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey Mike! :wavey: They did do the bloodwork and it worked out fine for us because my blood levels were within the normal range and both babies were normal for all markers on the scan. I dont FULLY get it, but I think if your numbers are at all off then it could be a false positive because they cant really tell whats the cause. Yeah, but the scan itself is AMAZING!!! So detailed. I was in awe at how much they can see.

I've told everyone! :pardon: I just couldn't keep my joy in! We've been trying for so long, and I'm so happy. I was hoping for twins!

I think we get to order our crib set in two weeks! :) I'm planning on getting the 4 in 1 crib (just one) It goes to a double bed so I plan on having the kids still sleep together when they are older. I'm really concerned with being a close family (but not so close to co sleep) since I didn't have a close bond with my parents or siblings.

I'm having my second ultrasound this thursday. We didn't get to see more than a flicker of a heartbeat at our first ultrasound at 6 weeks and three days. So this Thursday I will be 9 weeks and three days .... hoping to see two strong heartbeats.

I'm another one who doesn't know what an NT is?!

My pups are here! Two boys. Keeping me up all hours of the night. :) Practice I guess.

Congratulations on the twins!! We might get shouted down for explaining the nuchal scan (also known as the NT scan) in here rather than on the main board, but I did a post about it earlier this week entitled "nuchal screening - a little confused" and you can get some info there.

DW had no question that that was what we'd do. My perspective is that we should see if we are going to save money that way or could buy a separate bed for the cost of the rail kit. We've looked at a bit of furniture and I think most of it is very nice so it'd be nice to get more use out of it. In the end, I'm sure what we buy will be largely dictated by what we both like aestetically.

I agree. Given the uncertainty of the scan, I'm not sure I'll take too much reassurance from it if the numbers are good but not great. Your numbers looked great, so congrats! :D

We're going to take CDs and DVDs so we can get a copy of the scan. The handout from the OB says to take a CD to our 20-24 week scan, but we presumably they can do that at any scan. Doesn't cost them anything except perhaps a couple of minutes, so hopefully it'll not be a problem.

We lost our hot water heater overnight last Thursday. It's only a year old so hopefully the repair will be covered. I made all those calls Friday morning... then the assigned plumber finally called back at 2pm to say they couldn't come until Tuesday. :grr: Luckily, I'm able to get it working long enough that we can take somewhat warm showers.

My Ob's office has packages now where you can buy pictures in 4-d and have the scan recorded..... I'm so jealous that you can just take yours in!

I'm afraid that some major system will go out soon. Our water heater and air conditioner are all very very old. I hope it will hold out because we don't have the money honey!

Did everyone have a good weekend? I planted some flowers which the damn squirrels have already managed to dig up!

I don't know for sure that they aren't going to charge us. If they do (and it isn't cheap... and what is at a doctors office?) we won't be doing it at every U/S. We'll apparently be doing a U/S each month, so that could get rather expensive for some something that will mostly wind up next to the wedding vidoes... if we can find them!

I have stories to tell if you want to heat them. You might want to just skip this...

We had one of our ACs replaced 2 years ago. Just over $6000... I hope we don't have to get the other unit replaced before we move next year, though a smart buyer will want some sort of credit anyway I'd guess. I thought that having 2 A/Cs was a great thing when I bought the house, but I can't imagine I saved the $5000 it will cost to replace both over replacing a single larger unit.

The water heater: I foolishly thought it would be a good idea to flush it after having never done that for the prior 14 years. doh! I was never able to get the drain valve 100% closed so we figured to just replace it since it was beyond it's projected lifespan anyway. We buy a new one at Lowe's and pay something like $350, supposedly including install. The plumber shows up, pulls out the old one, then gives mean estimate for all the code-madated upgrades. Another $350! I should have just replaced it myself, but sometimes I just don't feel like fighting the battle with DW to not pay a "professional" to "make sure it's done right!" Anyway, the tank gets replaced and we're done with it... not! That night, DW is walking through the living room to let the puppy out and starts squishing. The morons had not fully tightened down the inlet pipe and, oddly enough, it was leaking! Somehow (we still don't have a clue) it had bypassed the new code-mandated drain into the backyard and seeped under the wall into the living room.

2 appointments this week: OB on Weds and NT scan on Thursday.
    Ya'll have a great week!

Oh dear. Drama city. I tell ya, we had an ongoing boiler issue with the flat that we rent to tenants. We completely replaced the thing and these morons kept changing the pressure and shutting the thing down. We spent hundreds of pounds on engineer callouts.

GL with the appts this week Mike.

    Keep us posted.

Oh, and make sure you are heating water for the wife's baths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We live in Phoenix and our A/C blew last August... we only have the one unit in our house, so it cost $12K to get one that will handle the load (we like it so we could hang meat in our house if we wanted. lol) Worst part is that we are selling our house now... we definitely would not have put such a high end unit in if we thought we were going to move.

As to the convertable bed question... we got one for our son and I like it. The trick will be whether your kids are the same sex and are going to share a room. The convertables are often much more expensive and most often don't come with any of the attachments for the later stages, which can be quite expensive. So, all things to consider. I think we're going to wait to find out sex and then figure out what to do with the cribs. I'd definitely start shopping around to find out what you like and how long each of those take to come in. Ours was fairly quick (baby Italia - one of their best and safest brands - from BRU).

    It's a Dr. Who? :blbl:

We finally got our hot water heater fixed yesterday afternoon. The spare part shipped from Whirlpool arrived while the plumber was here. I'm just going to keep it unless they force me to return it. I have no faith the valve won't go out again in another 14 months, and we're not going without hot water for 5 days again! :grr:
