Ever since the boys came home, I have done tummy time after they eat and before they go back down for a nap. I am wondering how long to leave them. I sit with them for 10 minutes and rub their back and talk to them. But there are times that my attention needs to be elsewhere. So, there are times that the boys will fall asleep. Yes, I am supervising them, but how long do you leave them on their tummy.

After tummy time, we roll on our back and get some exercise flailing their arms and legs. Even exercise their lungs a bit.

Then off to lay down again.

    Thanks for the input.

At that age since I was home with them and always in sight of them I just let them sleep on their bellies:) They didn't last long...I always joked that someone needed to explain to them that it was tummy time...not tummy NAP time;)

i wish my girls would sleep on their tummies during tummy time. for the first 2 months all they did was scream during it but now they are enjoying it a bit more. i read somewhere that they should get 15 minutes a day.

During that time I would do tummy time at least one a day [supervised] and did it until they looked like they were getting tired of it - which was usually about 5-10 mins ^_^ When they were 1.5 months old [about 8 wks] I had them do tummy time a lot more cause their muscles were a lot stronger and they had more control over their head. And guess what? At 10 wks they rolled from tummy to back! :) I was so happy for them!

I couldn't get mine to do any real tummy time until 3/4 months. Even then I had to increase the time in 1 min. intervals so they could get more used to it. I think 10 mins is fine. Maybe something like this would help keep them awake a little bit.

I do tummy time when I think of it, and when I have time, which is really sporadically ;) I never did it with my first son, he had such bad reflux that any pressure on his tummy would make him puke, and he rolled over at 5/6 months. I didn't do too much with my dd and she rolled at 6 months. I've only done it off and on with the twins but my ds rolled from his back at 5 wks old, no joke!

Our boys were floor kids, I let them lay on the floor. Heck DH even put them on the floor for their early morning nap. In fact, most of the time they were awake they were on the floor, and I'd say that we put them on their tummies for like 5-10 minutes around 3-4 weeks old, and we gradually moved up to like 20-30 minutes. I think at that age any floor time is good.

Ours hated tummy time with a passion. At first we could only get a couple of minutes a time. Eventually we worked up to 15 minutes a day and we would do 5 minutes each time. I would not have minded if ours took a cat nap while doing tummy time.

One of my boys loves tummy time and will nap for as long as i leave him there. The other is still getting used to it. Kenneth even held his head up off the floor for the frst time today. i was so proud. :yahoo:

Both of my girls hated tummy time. So I kind of let them lead the way. Sometimes they would last 2 minutes, yet other times they would surprise me and last 10 minutes! Eventually they started to learn that TT wasn't so bad. I guess for me, I didn't want to impose my own schedule on them because I didn't want them to hate it even more. So I was very flexible with the amount of time per session, but I did try 3-4 times per day!
