What if their face is flat down (sort of resting on their arms)? I would feel so much safer if she would actually turn her face to the side so I can see her nose fully exposed. Are they creating too confined of an area where they are dangerously breathing back in their own air this way? Or am I being overparanoid? Every time I try to physically move her head to the side, she puts it right back.

I freaked out the first time I found Alex on his belly. I flipped him back onto his back and he flipped right back over onto his belly. He used to sleep with his head on his arms as well. His little arms would be crossed and his head would be right on the center. He was fine. She can breathe and will move her own head if she needs to. Once they can turn themselves over they can move their head too. So- no, you are not paranoid- I think we all freak out when our babies turn onto their bellies to sleep because they practically engrave it into your head that they need to sleep on their back. And as a NICU nurse I strongly encourage back to sleep as well- that is until they can turn themselves over. She should be fine.

Mine do this too!!! I HATE it when they are completey face down. I always turn their heads. I am probably being over paranoid, but it makes me feel better.

if you are moving her face to the side but she moves it back she must just like it that way! Try not to worry, I know that's easier said than done! Sometimes I'll move my girls heads to the side and then I leave the room, I don't want to know if she puts it back!

It sounds like they are able to roll over. Usually, when they are able to roll over, the dangers of SIDS is past. You can alway call you pedi to make sure.

My dd use to do the same thing, head straight down, at that point she could roll over, so i didn't worry about it. I figure, babies faces aren't flat, they are around, therefore I know when she is sleeping on her nose there are still breathing spaces!

Mine have been tummy sleepers since they could roll. Now they are side sleepers -- their choice.

I found they slept better on their tummies.
