Tummy Sleeping?

My DD is 6 months and just loves rolling around. Well, the last couple of days, she has been rolling in her crib and sleeping on her tummy. We stopped using the sleep positioner because she can easily scoot out of it. Is this OK? I'm worried about SIDS, of course, but what can I do? My instinct is that she is able to turn her head and/or roll if she can't breathe, but I'm just not sure. What are the recommendations again for back sleeping as it relates to age and developmental stage?

    TIA!

I had this same worry when my guys started rolling. I think the risk of SIDS drops way down when they can roll over themselves. And, there's basically nothing you can do about it unless you plan to stay in her room all night. I'd skip the sleep positioner and let her be. That's what I do. My guys actually sleep on their tummies every night now. As soon as they hit the mattress, they swing their leg over and get on their tummy. If I flip 'em, they flip right back.

My boys can already flip onto their tummies and tend to sleep this way every night. I'm similar to you in the sense that I feel if they can move their heads if they can't breathe then I just let them be.

We are crazy about making sure if they are on their stomachs to flip them to their sides or make sure their face is where they can breathe well. To save the getting up and down we have cameras installed on each crib so all we do is turn on the TV here and there during the night if they make some noise to check the position. If it looks worrisome we go in and turn them. If not, we leave be. Since they are all over the place we do figure they will be okay unless the face is really pressed into the mattress.

Same worries right now over in this house! Our pedi said once they can roll they are fine to sleep on their tummies. HOWEVER, I still go in and turn her.

Once they are rolling, they are fine to sleep on their tummies.

We let them sleep however they wanted to once they could start rolling around.

We were told that once they could roll over that it was fine to let them sleep however they chose. We were worried about SIDS also, but every time we rolled them on their backs they would roll right back!

Also - we had to see a repiratory specialist for Isabel because she had laryngomalacia (sp?) and he told us that it is actually easier for babies to breathe while on their stomachs.
