If your having a csection, the recovery is the same. Having a tubal ligation can cause some issues, no matter when you get it done, but not everyone does. I regret mine, so think long and hard.

Like Heather said, having your tubes tied causes issues, mine included heavy bleeding, longer bleeding, large clots and bad cramping.
but worst of all was the depression I suffered because I regretted it so bad. I ended up doing IVF to have my girls. Please if you are on the fence about having it done, just don't do it.

I agree. Although I feel done now with three, I am only 26. That is like 10 more years of child bearing! I am opting for an IUD.

I had mine with the girls. I was 34. I did go through a period of mourning the inability to have more children, although I knew my family was complete. It's just normal to mourn a change like that, I think. I have had zero physical problems. Of course my first periods were heavier, but they always were when I had not had one during pregnancy and bfing. They settled back to normal after a few months.

I had mine done with the twins. They were our 2nd and 3rd children, and I just turned 40 a month ago, so was practically dancing a jig to not have to worry about birth control anymore. I had never had a c-section before, so I can't say if the recovery was any different or not. I do know that I had a little tenderness/slight pain where the tubes were cut, but it was more of a really bad cramping feeling. I haven't had issues with my tubes being tied. Sounds like maybe I'm in the minority here?

But I do second, and third the comments about about making sure this is the right decision for you since it is pretty permenant. Good luck with your decision.

I guess I am the complete opposite...I am excited to have mine done. This will be 3 & 4 for us at 31, I think we have done our part with population! :D

anyone else have any bad experiences? It would be nice not to have to worry about birth control. Just trying to weigh my options.

I haven't had any problems at all, and I certainly don't regret it. I know that in the future if we decided to have more (unlikely, but who knows -- we could win the MegaMillion lotto), we'd want to adopt anyway.

Hey- Since you and I are in the same exact situation with our momo babies and 2 other kids I wanted to let you know what my doctor told me. I asked since I have to have a c-section this time I thought it would be easy to have my tubes tied while they were in there. His advice was that I wait (even though I know we are done-4 kids under four) because in his experience he would rather wait and make sure the twins are ok first since I will be giving birth at 32 weeks. It sounds negative but he's right.

I agree, if you are not sure if you are done or not, then wait. My cousin had her tubes tied while she had her c-section 2 years ago and recovery was the same since they were done together.

No regrets on having mine done. Of course, I have 7 kids so Im defin. done having babies @ 34! Im glad I waited tho because now I feel our family is complete. Before I was always.."What if..." Just be sure its what you want.

My husband wants me to get it done, but I'm not sure. After these are born we will have 4. I know I am done, but just the thought of getting it done and knowing that I can't have anymore children scares me.

Do not do it unless YOU want it done. if the thought scares you now, just wait till you do it. then it is done and that's it. I had an ectopic pregnancy which tore my heart out then,
We did the reversal, didn't work. thank God IVF did but it wasn't an easy 7 years for me in between tubal and IVF. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not do it unless YOU want it done. it will be YOU that regrets it and has to suffer. sorry to sound crazy but please don't make the same mistake I did. get an IUD or something and decide when your babies are a little older IMO the day of delivery is NOT the time to make a decision like that. My hat is off to those who made the decision and LOVE it but I am sad for those of us who did and regret it.

I've always thought vasectomies were a much better option.... dh has to do his "part" anyway....LOL! But then you can wait for a good time, rather than dealing with all the emotional issues along with having your "last" babies. I don't think I could handle the pp hormones in combination with mourning them being my last. That would be too much for me.

I never thought about it for me - but my husband is getting snipped. He will be 38 this year and has an almost-16 year old. This will be #3 & 4 for him and as he said "I'd like to actually retire one day"

For me, I know I will NEVER want to be pregnant again. I am just not a very happy pregnant woman and I feel that it is fair to say my family will be complete after the birth of these children.

If my DH didn't want a vasectomy, I would consider the tubes-tied idea. But that is because I am certain about my feelings. :)

My mother had her tubes tied during her c-section. It was like they were right there so why not? She's always had a lot of gyno problems since and wonders if it had to do with the tubes. It's enough to scare me off from doing it. Our plan is a vasectomy for DH and Mirena IUD for me while we MAKE SURE the snip worked for DH. Plus I love the Mirena because my periods stop.

Why cant dh have the "snip" done. It is less of a mission for him and Like all the pp said you go through a period of mourning and it can cause issues.

I just turned 27, and I had my tubes tied along with my c-section. The recovery was a little harder this time, but my body did go through a twin pregnancy as well. I have four children and I know that's enough, but a tubal is so final. I was pretty sure at the time, but lately it's been hitting me I will never be able to have more children, and i'm not even 30 yet. Just be sure you're ready for it. The good thing is no more birth control!

I had it done after my c/s with the boys. No issues at all with recovery.
