Okay, so DH and i have been talking about doing something a lil more perm.. ya know.. Well i have been thinking that what if in 5 years we want another baby? I am only 23..
DH is willing to get "clipped" so i am pretty sure that is what we will do.. but i am so confused on what i really want.. I dont want to accidently get pregnant. we can not afford another one right now. I am thinking i want an IUD. but i dont know if i can get it.. I have issues "down there"

Anyhow back to my topic.. Which is less invasive? which works better? (i dont want to do it if its not gonna work..)

    thanks ladies

As young as you are I'd opt for a semi-permanent contraceptive, such as an IUC or depo shots, maybe that 4-periods-a-year Pill.

I had an IUD and it was really no trouble. I had the Paragard. I had heavier periods while it was in, but otherwise no problems or symptoms.

I voted vasectomy, because it is safer, quicker and more reversible. I had a tubal, but that was because I was having a c/s delivery with my girls (numbers 3 and 4, age 34.5) and since they were in there anyway, it was simpler to have me get a tubal than have my DH get a separate surgery.

If had had a vaginal delivery, he would have gotten snipped.

I had my first two and thought for a long time I did not want any more children. When my younger son was 6 I changed my mind. (Then I had infertility, and that's why there's an 8.5-yr gap between him and my girls.)

I would be leery of doing anything permanent so young.

I did a tubal with my c-section because they were right there. But I also did IVF for all of my kids, so if we were ever feeling adventurous (not likely) we could always go that route again and still have another baby. That way it was not final for us, but just hoping for no surprises. I had a really hard time trying to figure out which was right, so good luck.

ETA:I guess I misread your post and I voted for what I did. But for you being that young I dont think I would recommend a tubal. I guess a more perm thing would be a vasectomy for him and then you can have it reversed if you want, but that does not always work either. So what about just the pill and another form of contraception??

I voted vasectomy b/c it's an easier process than a tubal and heals quickly. Having said that, I would do something different since you are not sure and so young. I would suggest talking to your OB about it. GL!

I feel the same way. 26 here with a 5 year old and the twins, I was soo worried about acciednts that i shecduled hubby for a vac (he was willling) then i decide a little less permenant. I have an appointment tomorrow for a referal for an IUD.

I voted none. Only because you are so young! A tubal is a very invasive surgery, the vasectomy would be an easier procedure and is reversible. But given your age, I would opt for one of the long term birth control products.

Oops, I voted for a tubal because that's what I had done but then realized I was supposed to vote for you. Sorry. I definitely wouldn't advise you to get a tubal...you're young and really shouldn't get a tubal unless you're 100% sure you're done having kids. I opted for a tubal since I was having a c-section and they were in there any way. Otherwise, like some of the other women, my husband would have gotten a vasectomy. My advise to you is check with your doctor about other forms of birth control until you know for sure that you're done.

DH has an appt. next week for his vasectomy and the dr. actually told him that a tubal is more likely to reverse itself so a vasectomy was the better option. It is also a much less invasive procedure with a shorter recovery period.

My dh is no spring chicken so we're opting for a vasectomy when the time is right. I've heard horror stories of hormonal mishaps due to tubals and my hormones are wacky enough.

If you think there is even a 1% chance you may ever want another do not do anything permenant - get and IUD, the pill, depo, condoms or all if you want to be really safe ;) (j/k)

At 23, I wouldn't do anything permanent. Sure, the sugeries are reversible, in theory - but what if at age 30 you're tearing your hair out because you're having trouble getting pregnant after a reversal?

I have the Paragard IUD and love it. Maybe you could talk to your OB/GYN about long term but not permanent birth control and see what he/she thinks would work well for you?
