So I had my tubes tied when I had my twins in November. My OB assured me it was more effective than the pill. Well fast forward to 9 months later and yes I am pregnant. I had an emergency ultrasound to rule out ectopic and found out there was no fetal activity-thank goodness, please don't flame me for saying that. Now I have to have a D and C to clean out my utereus and another surgery to find out what went wrong with my tubal. I am so pissed, my poor body just can't take anymore. I could absolutely throttle my doctor.

Wow. Im sure that must be hard on you, after just having the twins 9 months ago. I dont know the extent of your first procedure, since you just said you had your 'tubes tied', but I know I had mine cut, burnt and then tied. I guess that is a more effective procedure since they completely separate the tube before tying it. I dont know if that is the standard now, or if they still just tie a knot in the tubes as well. You might want to discuss it with the doctor to prevent this from happening again.

I don't think anybody gets sterilized so they can have more babies. I can't blame you for being angry. :aggressive:

OOOOOooo I'd be HOT too :girl_devil: We are so fertile that after this last baby I am having my tubes tied(clipped, burned...removed, lol)AND the hubs is having a vasectomy. My last two pregnancies happened while I was on the pill and although they may have been pleasant surprises, we obviously were trying to prevent. Not to mention that since I had my boys, I've been hyperovulating so each pregnancy after was a set of twins. We have lost 3, but if I had them all we would be at 8. More than what we bargained for for sure. I hope the situation is rectified ASAP!!

In situations like this, I think you should get a refund!! In CASH to YOU!! It should not happen, ever.

Quick update. I had the D and C done and am just waiting to see the specialist on Oct.7.
Do you want to hear something scary-a girl I know works in L and D at a big city hospital. I had told her my story and this is what she told me. When a doctor uses surgical clips to do a tubal-which most do, they use a special tool, i am kind of picturing like a little ear piercing gun. Anyways, many many times when they get the tools back from sterilization to set up for the next c-section, the clip is still in the tool!! Meaning it was never put on the patient and they have no way of tracing to whom it should have went to. She said 100 percent, the doctors fault.

Oh my goodness I would DIE. Seriously? Your story about the clip gun freaks me out. Although my OB swore on a stack of Bibles that the cut and cauterized me - no clips or plugs. Holy cow.

This is my fear. DH said he's willing to get a vascetomy too, but he hasn't gone in for one yet. What I want to know is there anyway we can be checked to see that the tubal took? I'm pretty sure something as fancy as clips were not used in mine here at a Mexican public hospital. Probably cut and tied off with traditional stictes.

Yes, but it isn't fun so I am told. They inject you with dye and can see if the dye is moving through the fallopian tube on a screen. If it enters your utereus, you are in trouble-which I am sure, I will see first hand next week at my appt.

On a side note, I met a twin mom yesterday who's husband had a vasectomy years ago and they ended up with twins!! At first the hubby thought she had cheated, but the twins are the splitting image of him and unfortunately, it does happen-grrr.

I had the test done I think it is called an hsg. If you have this done make SURE you take Advil or some pain relief before the procedure- it made me have labor like pains. they inserted the dye vaginally it goes through your uterus and up to your tubes. My tubes were cut and burned. My dye spilled out into my abdominal cavity on the left side. My ectopic pregnancy was on the right side and there was what they called a "nest" of cells on that side which is where the baby had been. The right side probably looked like the left before the ectopic. The problem with the test is that like with me, my dye spilled into my abdomen and did not show what the side of the tube closest to my ovary was doing. I also had surgery to try and figure it out - My tubes had tried to grow back together - something my OB had only read about. During that surgery I actually had my left tube cleaned out and repaired - my right tube was shot because of the ectopic pregnancy
