last night we rocked each twin for 5 minutes and then put them in their crib. they both fell asleep very quickly without any fuss. gavin we worked on him sleeping on his own. it took an hour of puttin him back in his bed over and over but eventually he fell asleep.

i am now trying to put the twins down for their first nap. i rocked them for 5 minutes and then put them in their cribs with their loveys and their pacis. they were just talkign and playing. now they are fussing. how long is too long for them to be crying.

should i go in there? i don't know what to do. i feel like i should just go in there and put them to sleep by themselves but i want them to fall asleep on their own so my life is a little easier. how long do i wait to go in there?

    thanks

i wait for 10 minutes then go in and rub their heads and give them their pacifiers if they want it. it usually only takes me going in twice if they're being really really fussy - then they're asleep.

I never go back in unless they go hysterical and then there is usually something going on (something stuck, out of the bed, etc). However, my babies have been putting themselves to sleep since 1 month or so (my ped said it's learned behaviour and the sooner they get it the better), and it has been a life saver, especially with anolder child in the house. Having said that, I've never rocked her either, but she was an excellent sleeper since the day she was born. At this age, I would just let them figure it out ... but that's me. They'll get it.

it has been almost 30 minutes and they are still crying. i feel like it has to be done but it just hurts. i feel like i am hurting them. i went in there after 10 minutes and they just screamed when i left. i don't think i can go in there again, because i will have to pick them up. there poor little faces. they are in the same room but different cribs. i am starting to think that i should have put them in the diff. rooms.
    this is so exhausting.

I don't go back in, either. At first it was horribly hard for me, but then I realized that when I would go in it would raise their hopes and it would make things worse. If they went beserk about something (the cries were very different) then it was usually somebody had gotten their hand or foot stuck in between bars.

It is hard, but they need their rest and I'm sure you do, too. Hang in there!

well, i gave up the first time and went and got them. it took about 2 minutes for them to fall asleep in my arms. i know i shouldn't have but i was so upset. now, we are on attempt #2 with their second nap. my husband is in charge of it this time, b/c he said he didn't see what was so hard about it. hopefully i will have the wilpower to back off. :)
    I'll let you know

I have to sit it the room with them at this point until they fall asleep. I have a chair positioned between the 2 cribs - and they generally fall asleep as long as they can see me. If I leave the room before they're asleep - they scream blue bloody murder. I'm going to start working on getting them to sleep by themselves in the next couple of weeks - it'll probably involve a little CIO - but I'm such a softy - I hate to hear them crying!
