How long can i do the cold turkey for with my son who is not taking the sippy cup.. He eats well so I am not worried, but he hasn't had that much milk intake in the four days.. I have taken the flow out of the sippy cup to get him to get use to it.. I tried the nuby bottle but it didn't work..

    Please advise
    thanks

    dont give up hunny.

it might take a while but eventually he will have to take the sippy cup, point out that his brother is drinking from one and that he is so grown up.

dont go back to the bottle, he will get the drift that its gone after a while.

I know it might sound stupid but when my sister wanted to get her son of the pacifier, she told him that the paci monster had taken it because he was a big boy now, it worked, i couldnt believe it.

Just be consistent. If he knows that you are going to give in and give him a bottle then he will just continue to hold out until he gets what he wants. Just take the bottles out of the kitchen or house so that you are not tempted to give in. Hang in there, he will get used to it. Be sure to offer water so he doesn't get dehydrated.

One of my twins was pretty resistant to the sippies and it took her a few days to do it. I couldn't put the valves back in for her for at least a week. The other baby was resistant was well but picked it up a little faster. Have you tried the straw sippies yet? It never occurred to me to do that but others have had good success and I'm sure that would have helped us druing the transition. Like a pp said, put away the bottles in an inconvenient location so you don't get tempted by them. [IMG] If you take out the bottles it will be twice as hard to get rid of them. A few days of low milk intake isn't going to hurt him as long as he is getting liquids from some other source (water, juice, fruit, etc.) Another thing you may want to try is to give him undiluted juice in the sippy. That's what turned the corner for my resistant twin. Once she was using the sippie, I slowly started diluting the juice so they were just drinking milk and water again.

Dont give up! A couple of weeks without milk wont hurt him! When he finally realizes that he really isnt getting it back, he will take it! Good luck!
