So, because we didn't discover the twins til my 21wk regularly scheduled u/s, I've been under the care of a GP til then. My GP appt was 3 days after the u/s, and she then wrote a letter of referral to the OB in the nearby city (45min away). I got in 3wks later with her. She was NOT impressed that the GP hadn't ordered another u/s to be done since I'm carrying mono/di twins. It takes 4-6wks to get in for u/s here. There are very few machines within the two health authorities.

Anyway - I just got my u/s appt - June 19. That will put it at 7wks between u/s. I wil be 27w4d at that point. The babes were only 2-3oz different at the 21wk u/s, but reading about TTTS things can change drastically in 7 wks!!!!!!!

I'm going to call the OB tomorrow and see what she says, but I'm not holding out hope that I'd get in any sooner.

This sucks. I'm going to spend the next 3wks worrying - and what if they DO find something wrong????????????????

I know it's difficult but try to only worry about the things you can control!

I would stay as busy as possible organizing your nursery and doing fun baby stuff like that and think positive thoughts!!!

    Good luck mama :D

I am glad you are calling your OB tomorrow ~ I would think that they would want you to be seen sooner than that.
If they keep your appt then maybe you should get a 2nd opinion?
good luck & let us know what they say

Has your OB recommended that you drink Boost? I'm having mono/di twins, too, and my peri said this is a good way to keep the TTTS from occurring. I hope you can get in for an u/s sooner but if not at least you can try to do whatever you can to keep from having TTTS. My peri said to drink two a day.

You have every right to be concerned. You can never be too safe. You need to be seen sooner. Demand it and/or call around for somebody to monitor you. Good luck.

Unfortunately demanding is my only option - there is no option to 'shop around' or get a 2nd opinion We have 4 OB's, all work out of the same office, and only two locations for u/s other than an emergency room within a 3.5hr drive from here. I can't even get INTO an OB in the capital city of Wpg without a referral, so that option is out too.
Nheree - nope - no mention of BOOST but I'm going to add it in now that I've heard mention of it a few times....

When I asked the OB how often they do u/s with mono/di twins she said every 4-6wks max - so this is even out of HER guidelines.....they are extremely laidback about it here. Not to mention how difficult it is to get in...

Thanks for listening everyone! It helps to have somewhere to get it off my chest!

Im going through the same thing sort of with the TTTS..... I am almost 32 weeks and one of my babies weighs 4lbs and the other is only 3lbs 6ozs up until my 27th week my babies weighed the same every two weeks of my ultrasounds. My doctor said that it really isn't a concern until there is a twenty percent difference in weight between the babies. I even looked it up and it tends to be true. Right now i am at 15 percent... he has since put me on weekly ultrasounds and I have to go to the hospital twice a week for a NST. I was wondering couldn't you ask your doctor for the NST? The non stress test that montiors the babies and makes sure they are moving and everything is fine it could really put your mind at ease until that ultrasound. I can feel a difference in babies the bigger one tends to move a whole lot more than the small one, and when i go for my NST i usually stay on the montior about two hours because the littlest one just isn't as active as the other, but as long as they get 2 movements with a twenty minute period they let me go, and everything seems to be fine. I know what you are going though when I first looked up TTTS it worried me for days, just try to take it easy and i wish you the best of luck!

I found out at 19 weeks...and it took awhile to get into the Perinatologist as well. At the time we didn't even know the sex or if they were identical or fraternal. I guess I didn't even think about it because at the time I was so uninformed. I think knowing what I know now I would have pressed to get one sooner...like you. But it turns out it really didn't matter for me since they are di/di (boy/girl)

My OB's office called back - they can't get me in any sooner for an u/s anywhere in the two health authorities, but she booked me for an extra appt next week with her on Thurs the 11th for a recheck for babe's hearbeats again......

Tamika, thats really tough sweetie. But is it possible for you to go privately for an U/S in the meantime? I know it may be a big expense but it may be worth it to put your mind at ease if you're really worried (which I would be as well given that you're rather advanced in your pregnancy). I know that in London there are places like the Fetal Medicine Centre where you can book in for ultrasounds on your own or you can see a private consultant.

I hope something works out for you.

 Our healthcare sure seems to be lacking sometimes doesn't it?! So sorry you're going through this. It's awful when your pregnancy enthusiasm is dampened by cruddy care, I went through that last time. I was going to suggest a private center too, is there one you could go to if the cost isn't too much? I hope you can get in sooner. My u/s were all booked when I went to my first OB appointment but that was because we found out early it was twins, they are every month (4 weeks).

Last time we went to Calgary (3 hours away) to get the "just for fun" 3D u/s done twice since I only had 1 u/s last time. But I don't think they did measurements. We went to UC Baby and I see that they have a location in Winnipeg... I used my Calgary trips to SHOP! :) LOL!

    Good luck!

We have no private ultrasound clinics in Manitoba - everything is all publicly funded. The only one would be what Michelle mentioned - the 'for fun' 3D that does absolutely no diagnostics. I almost would consider it tho just to SEE the babes and know that they are okay, but that wouldn't reassure me on their sizes, kwim?

*sigh* It may be free, but alas, our healthcare isn't quite as thorough as it could be.

I'm glad you are at least getting in for a heartbeat check!! I'm sorry you can't get in for a good u/s sooner tho! :(

Definetly add in protein. Any of the shake drinks like ensure or boost should have nice high protein levels. Extra protein helps those babies grow big and strong!!

Try to rest as much as you can with 3 other kids. Altho I had b/g twins my peri and ob both said the rest, good food and lots of water intake definetly helped grow my babies big and helped me keep them in until 36 weeks (they were 7.2 and 6.4 lbs each at 36 wks 2 days).

Thanks Danielle. I'm headed to town today to get some ensure or boost - whatever our small town has in stock.

I did get reassured last night when I was gently feeling my belly and could feel a hard lump up in my ribcage on the right (so somebody has moved - that spot was empty last week!LOL) and then another one in the middle on the left, and kicks down low, and kind of all over. The bumps were decent sized, so I know they must be at least growing! Let's just pray they're growing at the same rate!
