Josh is getting 3 of his canines. For the past week he's had loose bm's and diarrhea. He's eating and drinking fine and I no longer have to give him motrin for the pain. He already had 1 canine and today I felt 1 of the other 3. I can see the tips of the other 2.

He's been pooping at least 5-6 times a day which has created a horrible raw diaper rash.

I have been told the teething does not cause diarrhea but I have no idea what else it could be. I've introduced no new foods and I've not given him juice, only water & milk. He acts fine during the day and the only time he is pain is after a bm because of his rash and also when I change his diaper.

So is it a myth that teething does not cause diarrhea? This is the most teeth he's gotten at once so tha't why I'm thinking it's related.

I've not heard it was fact or fiction but it was true for my two. They'd get diarrhea when they were teething. :( I'm sorry he has the rash, that doesn't help matters.

Generally speaking-my two have bm's 2-3 times a day. Today I think Nicholas had 5 alone. Not diarrhea type, but somewhat soft(what has my life come to-talking about the consistency of my child's diaper?!?!!?). LOL! Anyways... Nicholas got ALL FOUR canines at the same time. I didn't notice anything different.

However-he now has a runny nose the last 3 days or so. Nice and clear. No sneezing. And lots of dirty diapers. I'm putting my money on molars. It better be-because he better not be sick and get my other two sick!

As for the diaper rash-I'm sorry about that! Anthony has a nice red one as well-as the other day he went a few times. I think they both might be working on those molars...

If it helps-I put aquaphor on first, and then desitin(or whatever) if it's really bad. I read that from someone on here.

It's true for our household, our kiddos get runny stools/diarrhea when they are teething. My DD gets a diaper rash from too many BM's especially when she is teething

I have one of each. I've also been told and read that it is fiction, but for Logan it was truth. Mason hasn't had the same issues.

Pediatricians will tell you it's fiction, because they don't want you to dismiss diarrhea as "just teething" if the child is actually sick.

But, nearly every mom will swear that it's true. One theory is that babies/kids drool more when they're teething, and their saliva becomes more acidic, too -- and this causes diarrhea.

It's certainly been true at our house! I sprinkle on a little bit of plain cornstarch (the kind you cook with), and then top that with Triple Paste, as thick as if you're frosting a cake. That seems to work...

my girls both get it a couple days before they cut a new tooth. :unknw: as long as they don't have other symptoms (fever, etc) i don't worry about it.

I do the exact same thing with the cornstarch! My DD always has loose stools when teething. It's the only time I don't have to give her prune juice! She gets bad diaper rash too. Cornstarch works wonders.
