One of my girls woke up today with her eye glued shut. My friend said she heard that you could squeeze some breast milk into her eye and it would go away. I know that the LC I saw at the hospital told me that the colostrom would heal just about anything, but I've never heard that breast milk would. Does anyone know for sure?

They told me the same thing at the hospital the day I checked out with my last one. I guess BM can do a lot of amazing things!

True - use a bit of breastmilk for DS' clogged tear duct, works like a charm.

Yep, worked for us too! I wish I had known about this with my first DD; she had clogged tear ducts off and on for the first 6 weeks! This time around, I dropped a little breastmilk into their eyes the second I saw the gunk building up, and the gunk went away and never came back!

I just did one drop into her eye last night and it was all gone this morning! I am wondering if I should do another drop today just to make sure it's really gone. I'm so happy! Her little eye looked so irritated and itchy. :(

Aw, wish I had known about this in Trent's goopy eye days! He never got a full-blown infection, just a plugged duct several times. I wonder if it would work on road rash? He fell and scraped up two knuckles on the sidewalk while skipping out of the library with an armload of videos and books. They're pretty crusty and one is getting a bit of pus in it. Very gross. I remember reading somewhere about breastmilk being used on severe burn victims, too.

If I remember correctly breastmilk is a natural antibiotic...it can't hurt to try on the road rash and see what happens....

You know, now that I think about it, J had goopy eyes his first week home from the hospital. The pedi prescribed eye drops and since he wasn't on the insurance yet we had to pay ~$70 for them! I guess I didn't think about using bm since it wasn't actually pink eye. Of course, I wasn't really thinking very clearly at that point anyway!!
