    Hello

My babies are getting very fussy after being up for an hour to an hour and a half. I've learned from this forum that they should nap so they don't get this way. They don't fall asleep well on their own during the day. At night I am swaddling them in miracle blankets and they sleep great from 8 pm until 1 am, and then again to 5 am. Do other people out their swaddle them during the day to get them to nap? I have been doing that and they are much less fussy. I just I guess feel guilty about swaddling them during the day. They rest comfortably in the miracle blankets but without they don't sleep longer than 5-10 minutes. Just need some encouragment that I am doing the right thing.

At that age, our babies were constantly in their swaddle me blankets. Don't feel bad about swaddling them, it really does help them feel more secure at that age (or at least it did my babies).

At that age, we did whatever worked - whether that be swaddling, swings, bouncies, etc.

Our babies STILL nap in their swing 3xday. I know, I'm horrible! But my older DS did too - until he was 1 - and then he went to his crib for naps just fine!

Naps are important, no matter how they happen! :)

My 3 mo olds are swaddled tight in their miracle blankets napping in their bouncy seats right now :D

Maybe put them down before an hour´s up and see how they get on. If they´re catnapping 5-10 mins it usually means they´re overstimulated. I used to put DD down after just 30 mins at 2 months as she just couldnt cope any longer and that included feeding! She is a sleepy head though! ;)

I never swaddled and I wish I´d been shown how to as I´ve heard its very good to. Mine dont nap so well either during the day but, like yours, 9pm comes and they´re asleep. We wake them for one last dream feed around 11.30pm-midnight and they sttn. They´ve sttn since they were 2 months old.

Mine can only cope with being awake and up for about an hour too. DS can go 1.5 hrs but DD only copes with an hour. They both catnap during the day, usually about an hour each time. I think they´re just getting older! We took them out today during the time they dont sleep so well and they both ended up crying a lot as they were exhasuted. They were awake for over 5 hours  but not doing activities. They wake before feeds, then dont sleep post-feed! Too much to look at I guess when out and about! LOL!

Mine have been doing this too. Yesterday my 3 mos olds did not sleep all day. Just a few cat naps for 10-15 minutes after rocking etc.. then I put them down and they wke up. THey were fussing a lot. I had a really rough day yesterday because I tried so hard to get them to sleep and nothing worked. Usually a ride works but even that did not work yesterday. Today I decided that I was just going to sit in my room with them and nurse them everytime they fussed and just not let them cry. This has worked but when they fall asleep and I put them in the cribs, they still wake up after a few minutes. We finally broke down and tried the ride today and that worked- they slept in their car seats for 3 hours.

I am not sure what is wrong. It makes me worry about my milk supply. I am breastfeeding them. All other indictions point to plenty of supply though.

The good thing is that they slept 11 hours with only waking for feeds and then right back down. They woke 3 times.

    Any others having these issues?

Mine did this exact same thing - no naps - from the time they were 2.5 months until around 4/5months - at 4.5 months they started taking 3 30ish minute naps/day. It was at least *something* when compared to how they had NOT been napping at all. They would only sleep in my arms during those 2 loooong months of not napping. They even did this and I was following the HSHHC guidlelines of wake time lasting no more than 2 hours. I would find myself sitting in their glider, nursing them, and just letting them sleep on me. I'd bring a book and just sit there for 1.5-2 hours while they slept on my most desperate days! :)

Finally, at 5.5 - 6 months they started napping for longer periods (45 mins or so) and then at 7 months they started doing a 45 min. morning nap, a 1.5 hour afternoon nap, and a 30 min late afternoon nap - and now at 8.5 months, they are like clockwork with their naps.

It WILL get better - even if it seems like they will never, ever nap. They will! And if all other signs of getting enough to eat are there (wet diapers, poopy diapers, weight gain, and satisfied babies) - I wouldn't worry about your supply. I know it is hard not to - but I think the no napping thing is very normal at this age and is not a result of being hungry. Hang in there!

Yep.. you're doing the right thing :) I STILL swaddle mine for nap times - and I agree that they do much better being all bundled up :)
