this may seem totally trivial, but i'd like to know how you gals go about clipping your babies' nails.

with my older son, i used to always clip them while/after nursing, when he's still on the boppy. he was always such a light sleeper that we dared not touch him when he was asleep (i know that many moms and dads clip nails while babies are asleep.)

now that i tandem nurse on the ez2nurse pillow, i just can't seem to all 20 of those fingers, not to mention toes!

any creative ways you've gone about doing this little chore?

I hate the little clippings going everywhere, so I usually sit my kids on the edge of the bathroom sink. That way the clippings go into the sink, and they are usually mesmerized or at least amused by the reflection in the mirror so that I can get the clipping done!

I have always clipped my boys' nails when awake. When they were old enough to be bothered by it, I would put them on my lap by the tv, and they would be distracted for it. Now, I can say, you need a clip, and they come right to me. My friend cannot clip her sons' nails (he is 7). She always did it while he was sleeping, so he never got used to it, and will still fight her.

I file my boys' nails rather than clip them. It works very well because their nails are so soft and flaky they come off easily. I do it while they are awake. Sometimes they do get impatient, but there is no risk of cutting, so I just keep going and get them done. I will try to distract them with something if I need to.

Same here. I would always say to them "keep still" and they would which always used to amaze me. As they got older, I then used the TV as a distraction. Today I do it when they are in their highchairs post-dinner. If baby Einstein´s on I can do a really good job otherwise I go as quickly, and as carefully, as I can!

P.S. Both kids tried fighting me at some point but I was firm about it unless they went really crazy. It´s really about picking the right moment when they are distracted.
