Do you think they are too young for a tricycle?

should i hold off a year? or get them a trike for a year? and then a tricycle when they are 3? seems like a waste of money.

    wwyd??

We're thinking of getting our trikes soon.. they were just getting the hange of pedaling last summer at g'ma's house. I don't want to wait too long!

We got them at 2 and they are just learning to pedal at 2.75 (but they haven't had a TON of opportunity either - so that can make a big difference - we live on a incline, so that makes learning REALLY difficult!).

If you get them one at 2, I would say - get the low rider one's. We got the really expensive Kettler's and they LOVE their $30 one's that we have at Grammy's house. Just food for thought!

Our girls got their tricycles for their second birthday. It took them about 6 weeks to become experts at riding them.

I didn't want to wait as just depends on the child when they learn to use a trike. usally hear around 2-3yrs old when they get the hang of it. I really like these as they can push them or I can push them or transfer it to the rocking horse for inside as we don't really have a back yard for them to ride in.

In my opinion they are too young for the tricycle. They may hurt them selves.Let them go in the third year.

Mine got these last year for Christmas (they were 1 1/2). They absolutely love these! They don't pedal yet, but they can get around fast with their feet! We had them as the rocker first, but that didn't last long, they wanted to go. My 6 yr old still has his, and rides it every now and then. This is a great product!

The grandparents ganged up and gave the kids these trikes for their 2nd birthday, a little early due to IL visit timing:

I picked them out because they have little plastic and a lot of metal, so they are heavier, felt much sturdier to me. Also, I rode on this style myself, many eons ago, so I know it works well. Took a few months and now they are experts, probably by 2 yrs 4 mos they could pedal pretty well.

We did buy helmets (that came with elbow and knee pads, but those never get used), since the kids tipped over once going in a tight turn on an incline, and it's just safer to have helmets than not. But since then they have done remarkably well, and have mastered turning.

My oldest got that Radio Flyer trike from my grandma when he was 1.5 he had it down by the time he was 2. He got a real bike at 2.5 and this year he is getting an even bigger bike. The twins are working on the trike now. I think it just depends on the child and also where you live. We are outside ALL the time and have lots of opportunities to practice.

skip trikes and go straight to bikes. These are really popular in my neighborhood and kids really seem to love them. They can be expensive, but you can google run bike or balance bike or trainer bike and get others that are less expensive... I would also check ebay... I can't get you the link from work, but there is someone there who makes great painted ones. We are going to buy them for the next b-day....

We started using our tricycles around the age yours are now, but they still (a couple of months later) haven't gotten the hang of pedaling. Amy tries, but her legs are too short. (I think my DDs are on the short side.) Sarah doesn't even seem to understand the concept.

They do LOVE their trikes, but get ones with push bars. ;) We have one with a push bar and one without, and DH and I have to take turns with the push bar, because neither of us can stand to push the other one for very long.

We make them wear helmets (even though I'm not really worried about them hurting themselves yet) because I figured it was better to start that habit now than try to start it later.

I saw too many of my friends with tricycles for their 2 year olds and the kids were not ready for them until closer to 3. We are giving tricycles for Christmas at 2 1/2 and think they will be able to ride them by the time summer comes around and they are almost 3.

IMO, they are probably still a little young. My little ones are 3 1/2 and only Garrett can pedal. In my experience, if you buy them a toy they aren't ready for, it only makes them mad & you run the risk of the toy being destroyed by the time they can manage it themselves.

    radio flyer tricycle

These are ones that I will be getting for the twins' 2nd birthday in June (or maybe a little earlier when the weather outside is nice!). It converts from a parent push along (the pedals lock so they don't turn when in motion, and the parent can steer from the handle) to a regualr tricycle. I also like that it is primary colors and not covered in Dora or Spiderman!!

My kids got tricycles when they were 1 year 9 mos. They could not ride them right away, but Hannah was able to ride hers fairly quickly. I am glad that we got them when we did. Ben can ride his very well now, but it took him longer. We got small Radio Flyer trikes. Now my kids, a year later, are still not three but way too big for their tricycles. They can ride bikes with training wheels now. So I think mine were the perfect age when we got the trikes.
