So we are flying up to Oregon this weekend to see family. Its only a 1.5 hour flight, which isnt too bad. I talked to southwest and they told me even if they are 2, they dont technically have to have their carseats. I was thinking of using those portable strapped in booster seats by first step, and renting the carseats at the rental car place. I just am not looking forward to lugging around TWO britax's. Any hints for airline traveling or just traveling period? Thanks!

I would make sure that your car rental agency HAS them and will reserve them!! Not all do - or they can't guarantee them.

We took our Marathons to Dallas and the benefit was that the straps were in the right holes and we didn't have to adjust the height or the size before putting them in the van.

1.5 hrs. is a good first trip. Take a couple of toys and books they have never seen. Lots of snacks and sippys for the airplane and just know that even if they have a fit, it's only temporary! Just keep your sense of humor in tact and you'll do fine!

Personally, I would fly the carseats there. The few times I've had to or my sister has had to get a rental carseat it was kind of a pain. You have to figure out how to use it, adjust all the straps, and they're usually kind of gross (food stains, etc.). Also, you just never know if they've been involved in an accident, etc. The airline should let you check your carseats and not count them as part of your luggage allowance. I put ours in carseat travel bags, but you could put them in trash bags to protect them during transport.

We just got back from a southwest flight. On the way their we used the car seats. They sat so well that I checked the car seats for the way home and that was a BIG mistake on my part. I have really well behaved children but we endured a 2.5 hour delay with no naps and I think they are just more comfortable in their seats. I just put our BIG car seats on the top of our stoller canopy and it wasn't a big deal at all to lug them.
