Is it a good idea to travel in the last trimester with twins. I am not on bedrest but they have recently found protein in my urine and I am waiting to see if I need to do the 24 hour collection. My doctor wasn't too worried about it but she just said to take it easy for awhile until they recheck it and see if it goes back to normal. I am really feeling pregnant and the idea of being in the car for four days and staying somewhere that is not the comforts of home doesn't sound like the best idea. It is not a trip that is totally urgent but my husband is going to see his Grandma. I usually go with him but it is a 12 hour drive. We did just see her in March right after I found out I was pregnant and I am sure we will go out shortly after the babies are born to visit.

I am sure it would be better to just stay home and relax. I would not know what to do if something happened when we were that far away from home and not by our doctors or hospital. My sister has offered to stay the night and help with my older son. I just feel bad that I am not going to see her. I guess I am just looking for some logical input or reassurance that the right thing is to stay home and just let the babies and myself relax and not deal with being in the car, the heat and so far from everything.

Thanks for all the good advice, it means a lot.

Honestly, I wouldn't do a trip that long. I did one that was 10 hours when I was 13 weeks and that was SO hard. It took me a good week to feel recovered. I couldn't imagine trying that right now. I think it would just be a bit risky with twins in the last trimester to go too far from home. Try not to feel guilty and reassure both yourself, your hubby, and his grandmother that you are taking care of these babies and will be out to see her as soon as they're ok to travel. If you truly want to go then I'd get the OK from the Doc before anything and also make sure that there is somewhere on the other side or even on the way that you could go in case of an emergency. Good luck with your decision!!

My Dr. said no traveling during the last trimester ~
so if it is something that you think you REALLY need to do I would just get the A-OK from your OB first :)
Everyone would want you to get rest & take care of yourself, so don't feel guilty! Plus, can you imagine all the potty breaks you would have to take on a 12 hour drive??!! ;)

I would stay home and relax. I sat in the car for 425 miles last weekend. I was impressed that we only had to stop to use the restroom every 100 miles and I am only 20 weeks pregnant. I don't know if I would make it more than 25 miles without stopping when I am in my 3rd trimester!

I wouldn't have even wanted to drive that far when I was pregnant with my singleton. Personally, I wouldn't go. It's a long car ride and you are so far from home if something were to happen. I'd stay home and relax.

My Dr won't let me do any traveling after 24 weeks....which is just a few days from now. It was the same with my last twin pregnancy as well.

My husband was going down to see his family when I was about 28 weeks pregnant and my doctor said NO WAY! I was so bummed, but she said that I would have to stop every 90 minutes to get out and go to the bathroom and move around to prevent clots, so it was going to had more time to an already long trip.

I've been "grounded" since 24 weeks. My doctor doesn't even want me to travel farther than 1 hour distance from my hospital. It's an increase to the risk of PTL, but more than that, if something were to happen, would you be near a hospital with a top-notch NICU?

I was put on travel restriction at 28 weeks. I would not have wanted to travel anyway I was so uncomfortable. We also were advised to wait to travel with the boys beyond 2 hours until they were 3 months old. Our doc was concerned about their necks not being strong enough to handle the bumping involved in car travel.

I wouldn't do it. First, you'd have to stop all the time to pee, plus you will be so uncomfortable in the car for that long. Also, I would feel VERY nervous being far away from my hospital. I went to the hospital a couple times for PTL issues in my 3rd tri. Stay home and relax :)

I wouldn't travel that far in my third trimester. Too risky for me, plus you'd have to stop every 30 minutes to use the potty.

My doctor didn't want me travelling in last trimester said to stay within 1/2 hour of hospital (didn't matter anyhow as I ended up on bedrest)
