I will be traveling to VA from Las Vegas in january without my DH as he can't get away from work. I am nervous about flying alone but am not willing to just stay home. Any ideas. I will have my seat and one more for 1 carset. but I am not looking forward to the plane ride. Let me know wht you have done, any thing that helped even if your DH came also.

I haven't flown with them, but I did take them on a long car trip by myself when they were 6 weeks old, it wasn't too bad, we stopped halfway at a McDonalds for a feeding, the only thing that I didn't anticipate is that I would have to use the restroom, lets just say 2 carseats plus a person in a restroom stall is pretty hilarious. I would definitely say take a stroller though, you don't want to be carrying them all through the airport.

Good luck you can do it!!

You can fly alone with two infants? Here in Canada we aren't allowed to fly with two children under the age of 2. When I asked they said it was in case of emergency.

I flew (had to have my sister fly here to help me fly there) when my two were then 5 months old. Bring toys, bottles, pacifiers. This helped. My two were lap babies and slept part of the way. The toys (ones they had never seen before) helped pass a good amount of time. It was a 2 hour flight. They actually did well though I did stress about it for a few weeks beforehand. I'm already thinking about what it will be like to fly with them in the summer when they are 18 months old...YIKES!

    Good luck!!

I've never done this and probably never will but I would remeber to bring the pacifiers for sure and maybe they would do better if you swaddled them during the trip? Not sure though.....
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I would actually check with the airline that you are allowed to travel with two infants by yourself.

When my DH and I travelled earlier this year - we were not allowed to sit together because they didn't allow two small infants in the same aisle. We were told it was for security reasons. He had to have one baby and I the other and we sat one behind the other.

    This was on American btw.

There are several airlines in the US that will not let you travel with two infants even if you buy seats. You should definately check with your airline to make sure you can fly with two babies. Also, make sure they'll let you sit in the same row with both of them. They might say you can fly with two, but then when you get to the plane, you'll have to put one baby across the aisle from you (in the window seat - that's where they allow car seats). That would mean your infant would be sitting next to strangers.

    Wow. You are brave!!

I flew alone many times with my older DD when she was an infant, and here is my best tip -- have your DH get a special pass at the ticket counter to help all of you get through security. You will need to fold down the double snap n' go (or whatever you take), and take the babies out of their carseats to walk through, so you will need some help.

I did it at 5.5 months and 8.5 months and it was fine both times. Just make sure to use a stroller but I'd only suggest one carry on because you've already got two babies to deal with. You'll want a baby carrier to carry the non-carseated baby onto the plane. I also suggest lysol wipes for cleaning off the seatbelt that is going to go across your baby's carseat and for wiping off the things the baby in your lap is going to want to touch. The carseat will have to be in the window seat with you sitting in the middle seat.

Make sure the kids are drinking something or sucking a pacifier during take-off and landing, even if that means you have to hold off a scheduled feeding time for 15 minutes. The cry of a hungry baby is nothing compared to that of a baby in pain.

Take two extra sets of clothes per kid (this can just be onesies and receiving blankets) and an extra shirt for you. Lots of little toys will also help. You will get lots of offers of help for getting on and off the plane so don't worry too much about the logistics of that.

Depending on the people at security, you may have to take the babies out of the stroller to send the stroller and carseats through the x-ray machine. Then you carry the babies through the metal detector and the security person will help you open the stroller.

When you check in, as the agent if there are any extra seats on the plane and if you can take your other carseat on with you. If the plane is full, you can still take your carseat to the gate (especially if you need it to hold the baby in the stroller) and then just gate-check it with your stroller. They both will be waiting for you when you get off the plane.

As long as you aren't a high-strung person, flying with the babies probably won't be too difficult. I've flown with our two plenty of times and they all turned out just fine. Good luck and have fun!

You can't sit lap two babies in the same aisle with two parents + another person because that would be five people sitting in that aisle and there are only 4 oxygen masks. That's an FAA rule.

Also, you can't fly with two lap babies by yourself but you can buy seats for them and fly that way.
