Hi. We are having b/g twins due in mid-May. Assuming they dont need NICU time, do you think its feasible for my husband, me and the 2 babies to drive to our in-laws (maximum 2hrs each way) with both babies when they are 8 days old? I know its not going to be easy but can anyone tell me how they would have felt about this about a week after their Csection?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I was really sore after my c-section and needed help doing simple stuff like getting in & out of the car. Also, at that stage I was still bleeding pretty heavily. The thought of having to stop on the road & having to use a public restroom after having a csection....well, who would watch the babies in the car if you need help? (Not to be gross, but I did need help going to the bathroom even for a little while!) If it were me, I'd wait awhile before doing it....at least till you know for sure you & the babies are up for it.

I had a pretty easy recovery - but as the previous poster said, getting in and out the car was tough...and I brought a pillow for the bumps. If you can wait 2 weeks, that will be best - I was much better at my 2 weeks follow up and even got the clearance to start walking for exercise and driving.

First, [IMG] to TS! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

As for your question, NO WAY! Well no way for me anyway! [IMG] I don't think you will be feeling up to it honestly. And you will have TWO babies to be taking care of!! Is there a reason for traveling so soon? [IMG]

We will have a nurse with us in the car too. Its for a religious ceremony that is supposed to happen on the 8th day. If necessary, I can do it closer to home - its just more work for me.

Ahhh, I see. Well, I would still really consider another location, closer to home. Good luck with your decision.[IMG]

I think I probably could as my incision is fine (we're going to the mall this weekend, lol) but I don't think I'd want the babies in their car seats that long. Our little Keira was pretty well flopped over after the one hour trip home from the hospital yesterday...I really don't think she'd be up to it.

We went to my inlaws for DS's bris. It was about a 45 minute drive each way. I would do it if the alternative is to have it at your house. A 2 hour drive is alot easier than throwing a brunch for x number of people plus getting the place cleaned up for them etc.
At 8 days post section I didn't feel great, but I was well enough to make the trip.

Ahhhh....that makes it a little different. Can the nurse sit in the seat with the babies, or where he/she can see them? Another thing I forgot about was how easily babies' heads flop over...not a big deal if it's to the side, but if it's forward it can cut off air. I was constantly turning around for the first couple months to make sure they were still breathing. [IMG] If you go, I suggest taking your pain meds right before you leave & recline your seat back if you can & if you tend to bleed heavily maybe put a towel on the seat, just in case.

I was sore but fine to travel that distance at 8 days.

thanks everyone. the thought of having the bris at my house or even having to plan it is just so overwhelming. i figure since we have the nurse, she can sit in back and keep a close eye on the babies. hopefully there wont be too much traffic. did i mention i plan on breastfeeding too?!

Unless you are in the minority, you will likely give birth to them sometime in April and you'll have more recovery time than you think! I would leave your options open and tell the family that you'll have to go with the flow! It wouldn't be easy, but the babies will likely sleep a lot in the car! (My problem was that they couldn't hold their heads up and I hated not seeing if they were slumped over or something!)

[IMG] OK, now I get it!! Sorry...it has to be done 8 days after birth!! [IMG] (I just read the rest of the thread)

I think you should find a way to do it closer to home! Just my opinion!

I would have been ok 8 days post section (I was cleared to go for walks to exercise after I was discharged at 5 days)...I think I'd do it - I'd rather do that than have to clean my house and throw the party!

I took the babies down to the doctor at one week and it is an hour away. I drove, so it was tough. Take your pain meds and get a pillow to sit on and you'll be fine!
