Do you remember how you felt at around 23-24 weeks pregnant – were you swollen? My boss just mentioned that there is going to be a trip in april for a projectI’m working on which we’d have to fly to. I’m totally not interested in going…I think that is too late to fly, esp. with twins…

We actually planned a week in Florida when I was 24 weeks. We asked the month before and then got a check-up a few days before. We made sure everything was refundable. It was a nice time. I was luckily not swollen just tired and a week of my hubby doing all the lugging of our 2 1/2 yr old around was nice.

Then I had the misfortune of traveling again when I was about 27 weeks (just a week and a few days ago). I had to go back to Florida by myself for a funeral. It was fine as far as being pregnant. Make SURE you get an isle seat and even upgrade to 1st if you can. I just drank tons and got up and walked to the back of the plane every 1/2 hr or so mostly to pee, but also to stretch my legs and help my rear from falling asleep. Also, check as much of your luggage as possible.

That's all I can think of for now.

I just flew to Portland this weekend at 26 weeks and was fine. No problems at all....just walking a little slower!

I flew to Europe when I was 24 weeks, returned when I was 26 weeks pregnant. No problems at all. I wasn't dilated, so they easily let me go.

I refused to travel past 23 weeks because we live 10 miles from the largest level 3 NICU in the US and at that point if I went into PTL I knew here was their best shot. I wasn't terribly uncomfortable, though. A car trip would probably be worse than an airplane ride.

I traveled ALOT while pregnant, including an 18 hour trip from Eastern Europe to the Midwest at about 20 weeks. My last flight was at 32 weeks, from Mexico back to the Midwest.

I second the recommendation for the aisle seat. Drink more than you think possible (airplane air is very dry). As long as you have no risk factors, there is little danger is traveling.

I flew to florida (from DC) at 25 weeks; double ditto on the aisle seat and drinking more than you think possible. Also definitely get up and walk around. But - if you're not comfortable and don't want to go, you could tell your boss that your doc recommends your not doing any ESSENTIAL travel.....

As a pp said 24 weeks is when they start to be viable if you're near a levell 3 NICU; if you're not then it's not a good thing, so you might want to take taht into consideration.

I flew by myself with 2 kids from Oregon to Boston at 24 weeks. No problem. It was the trip home at 27 weeks that a bit tougher!

    You've gotten great advice! [IMG]

Ultimately, I'd ask your OB for their take on how you are progressing and if he/she would advise/recommendor heaven forbid, condemn travel at that point.

I have heard from more than one source that some airlines don't allow (how they can do that I'm not sure, perhaps it's an insurance issue..) pregnant passengers beyond a certain point, and for women pregnant with multiples that "week marker" is earlier.

For the time frame you are talking about, I don't know...but I'd talk to everybody ahead of time...your employer, your OB, the airline, etc!

Always better safe than sorry! [IMG]

Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy!

My doctor advised against travelling after 20 weeks with the twins. I would talk to your ob and see what they say.

If you aren't interested and the going on trip is super important, then I would think your OB would gladly give you a "No", if that's what you need. Boss can't be too upset if it's doctor's orders!
